Item 6K Ordinance No. 480-RRRR Amendment to the I-1 & I-2 Zoning Districts to Eliminate “Commercial Schools, Including Trade Schools” as a Permitted Use City Council Meeting - June 16, 2015 1 Ordinance No. 480-RRRR Remove “Commercial school, including trade school” as a permitted use by right in the I-1 and I-2 Industrial Districts Allow “Commercial school, including trade school” through Specific Use Permit approval by adding the use to Section 45 of the Zoning Ordinance 2 Background Information Purpose of the amendment is to address parking and safety concerns resulting from the combination of industrial uses and commercial schools within I-1 and I-2 Zoning Districts S-P-1 and S-P-2 properties with underlying I-1 and I-2 uses are also affected by the proposed amendment 3 I-1 & I-2 Use to be Removed 26.2 PERMITTED USES c. Compounding of cosmetics and toiletries ... 4 Examples Including but not limited to: Vocational schools HVAC Schools Mechanical Schools Cosmetology Schools Medical Tech Schools Gymnastics Schools Karate Schools Scheduled Fitness Centers 5 Proposed Addition to Section 4 (Definitions) Commercial School, Including Trade School - Establishments, not including public or parochial schools, private primary or secondary schools, or colleges, offering scheduled training or instruction in a trade, art or occupation. This includes private educational facilities for profit including training centers, martial arts, dancing, music, fitness and athletic training 6 Proposed Addition to Section 21 (C-2 Local Retail Commercial District) 21.2 PERMITTED USES 13.
