Item 4F-4G-4H Permits for Art Gallery Exhibits and Receptions in Town Hall Items 4F, 4G & 4H Good evening Mayor and members of the City Council. I am presenting Items 4F, 4G and 4H which are permit requests for art gallery exhibits and receptions in Town Hall. 1 Requested Action City Council approval of three (3) permits to allow art exhibits: Item Gallery Reception Exhibit Theme 4F Sept 10, 2015 9/10/15 – 10/23/15 History of Southlake 4G Feb 21, 2016 2/19/16 – 4/22/16 Strokes of Art in the Square 4H No Reception 4/22/16 – 4/24/16 CISD Artwork The purpose of these items is to seek City Council approval of permits to allow three (3) separate art gallery exhibits in Town Hall. The events are: Item 4F: A fall art gallery exhibit which will feature Historical Southlake-themed artwork to be displayed September 10 – October 23, 2015 Item 4G: The annual Strokes Of Art in the Square exhibit February 19 – April 22, 2016. And Item 4H: The annual CISD student art exhibit April 22-24, 2016 in conjunction with the Art in the Square festival On the next few slides I will describe each permit request in more detail.   2 WHAT: Permit for art gallery exhibit & reception WHEN: September 10, 2015 (reception) September 10 – October 23, 2015 (exhibit) WHERE: Town Hall Lobby WHO: Sponsors Southlake Arts Council Southlake Historical Society APEX Arts League Item 4F – History of Southlake ITEM 4F - INDIVIDUAL PERMIT REVIEW – SEPT 10, 2015 – OCTOBER 23, 2015, HISTORICAL SOUTHLAKE Item 4F is requesting approval for an art gallery reception to be held Thursday, September 10, 2015 and art exhibit September 10 – October 23, 2015 in the main lobby of Town Hall. The exhibit will feature historical photographs of Southlake. The theme was selected to help promote the rich history of Southlake and the Southlake Historical Society whose mission is to preserve and share Southlake’s history and culture. The reception on September 10th will include a program, refreshments and entertainment. The reception and exhibit are sponsored by the Southlake Arts Council and APEX Arts League in partnership with the Southlake Historical Society. 3 WHAT: Permit for art gallery exhibit & reception WHEN: February 21, 2016 (reception) February 19 – April 22, 2016 (exhibit) WHERE: Town Hall Lobby WHO: Sponsors Southlake Arts Council APEX Arts League Art in the Square Item 4G – Strokes of Art in the Square ITEM 4G - INDIVIDUAL PERMIT REVIEW – FEB 19, 2016 – APRIL 22, 2016, STROKES OF ART IN THE SQUARE Item 4G is requesting approval for the annual Strokes of Art in the Square art gallery reception to be held Sunday, February 21, 2016 and art exhibit February 19 – April 22, 2016 in the main lobby of Town Hall. The exhibit will showcase artwork from the 2016 Art in the Square Featured Artists. The reception on February 21st will include a program introducing the featured artists, refreshments and entertainment. The reception and exhibit are sponsored by the Southlake Arts Council, APEX Arts League and Art in the Square. 4 WHAT: Permit for CISD art exhibit WHEN: April 22 – 24, 2016 WHERE: Main Lobby, Courtroom Lobby, Library Lobby and 3rd Floor Training Rooms WHO: Sponsors Southlake Public Library CISD Art Department Item 4H – CISD Art Exhibit ITEM 4H - INDIVIDUAL PERMIT REVIEW – APRIL 22 – APRIL 24, 2016, CISD STUDENT ART EXHIBIT Item 4H is requesting approval for the annual CISD art exhibit to be held April 22 – 24, 2016 in Town Hall in conjunction with the annual Art in the Square festival. The exhibit will feature over 200 art pieces selected by CISD art teachers from grades K-12 art classes. The exhibit will consist of both floor and wall displays. Freestanding, portable floor panels will be used to display the art pieces in the main Town Hall lobby, in the courtroom lobby area and in the lobby area outside the library. Artwork will also be displayed in the 3rd floor training rooms in combination wall and floor displays. A gallery reception has not been request for this event. The exhibit is sponsored by the Southlake Public Library and CISD Art Department. 5 Financial Considerations *The Public Art Budget is funded by the Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund The financial considerations for each exhibit are shown on this screen. For the History of Southlake exhibit, the City may contribute up to $2,000 for reception refreshments and entertainment. Funding is currently available in the FY 2015 Public Art Budget. For the Strokes of Art in the Square exhibit, the City may contribute up to $2,000 for reception refreshments, entertainment and shipping of artwork. Funding would be made available in the FY 2016 Public Art Budget pending City Council approval during the budget process. The permit also addresses the corporate objectives of providing opportunities for partnerships and volunteer involvement and enhancing the sense of community by providing excellent customer service and citizen engagement opportunities. 7 Board/Council Review Permits comply with the Public Art Display and Performance Policy Southlake Arts Council recommended approval (7-0) of permits May 26, 2015 City Council consideration June 16, 2015 The proposed permits comply with the Public Art Display and Performance Policy. The Southlake Arts Council and City Council have approved eighteen (18) similar art receptions and exhibits since 2011. The Southlake Arts Council recommended approval (7-0) of the permits during their May 26, 2015 meeting. Tonight we are seeking City Council consideration of the permit. 8 Questions?
