2015-03-24CITY OF SOUTHLAKE Senior Advisory Commission Meeting: March 24, 2015 LOCATION: Senior Center 307 Parkwood Drive Southlake, Texas Members Present: Chairman Nancy Sporn, Vice Chairman Charlie Boyd, Secretary Marge Kyle; SAC members, Beverly Blake, Jean Boland, Bernice McCauley, and Barbara Pappy (Alternate 1) Commission Members Absent: David Baltimore Staff Members Present: Director of Community Services Chris Tribble, Deputy Director of Community Services Kate Meacham; Deputy Director of Community Services Candice Edmondson; Steve Moore, Recreation Superintendent; Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank; and Communications & Marketing Manager Megan Philips; Hospitality & Events Manager Dona Roth Kinney; Sales Specialist Danielle Nelson; and Soheila Phelps, Senior Services Coordinator Guests: Eric Phelps and Brighton Greene, CARS liaisons; Mary King, MMOW liaison; Senior Center members Gloria Ault, Jay Hartman and Mary Beth Paul Agenda Items were considered out of the regular agenda sequence. Public Forum: None 1. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Sporn called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 1:07 p.m. Guests and new staff members introduced themselves. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Commission and are enacted with one motion. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 10, 2015 REGULAR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION MEETING. Motion: Kyle Second: Sporn Ayes: Blake, Boyd, Kyle, McCauley, Pappy and Sporn Nays: None Abstention Boland (absent from meeting) Vote: 6-0-1 Motion Carried. 3. CONSIDER - There were no items to consider for this meeting. 4. REPORTS 4A. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank presented the City Manager's Report and responded to questions. SAC was informed about a water conservation meeting (H2O1Q), the SPIN Candidates Forum, the May election schedule and community events. Updates are available at www.MySouthlakeNews.com and the weekly email blasts. Traffic issues on Carroll Avenue at the Chuy's Restaurant location will be reported to the City's Office of Traffic Management and the police department. 413. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS MMOW representative Mary King distributed and discussed the February MMOW monthly report, and upcoming activities, including Ms. Martha and Ms. Millie's 100th birthday celebration. Ms. King was available to answer questions. 4C. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS representative Brighton Greene summarized the CARS monthly participation trip statistics report and presented information on ridership and CARS activities. Mr. Greene was available to answer questions. 4D. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Secretary Nancy Sporn reported on SSFI fundraising efforts and their need for volunteers. Ms. Sporn was available to answer questions. 5. PUBLIC FORUM Chairman Sporn acknowledged the public forum. There being no one wishing to speak, Chairman Sporn proceeded to the next agenda item. 6. DISCUSSION 6A. THE MARQ SOUTHLAKE PHASE 1 OPERATIONS UPDATE Deputy Director Candice Edmondson presented a visual update of The Marq Southlake facility. A 3D flyover marketing video of The Mara Southlake is available online at www.TheMargSouthlake.com. The catering processes and hours of operation Commission members requested a copy of the responded to questions from the Commission. 6B. SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION BYLAWS proposed rental fees, alcohol and for the facility were presented. fees for The Marq Southlake. Staff Senior Advisory Commission Vice Chair Charlie Boyd led the discussion about the SAC Bylaws. The language in the Bylaws was reviewed and the Commission agreed not to make revisions to the Bylaws. Director Tribble responded to questions. 7.
