2014-10-28 CITY OF SOUTH SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL MEETING, OCTOBER 28, 2014 LOCATION: 1400 Main Street, Southlake, Texas Southlake Town Hall — 4A TIME: 6:00 p.m. SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL PRESENT: Chair Leslie Bartlett, Vice Chair Miriam Murray, Secretary Jesika Cook and Southlake Arts Council members Merlene Ingraham, Tamara McMillan, Terri Messing, and Christina Esparza (Alternate #1) SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL ABSENT: Lamberto Alvarez (Resigned) STAFF PRESENT: Deputy Director of Community Services Candice Edmondson; Deputy Director Kate Meacham and Assistant to the Director Cassie Tucker STAFF ABSENT: None OTHERS PRESENT: None 1. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Bartlett called the meeting of the Southlake Arts Council to order at 6:09 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Southlake Arts Council and are enacted with one motion. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 23, 2014 SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL MEETING There were no corrections to the minutes APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes as read. RECOMMENDATION ON PERMIT TO ALLOW A HOLIDAY THEMED ART EXHIBIT NOVEMBER 21, 2014 — JANUARY 5, 2015 IN TOWN HALL LOBBY Deputy Director Edmondson presented the permit request for a proposed holiday themed art exhibit. The exhibit will consist of five (5) paintings from local artist Trish Biddle and will portray images of Southlake Town Square during the holiday season. City Council will consider the permit request at the November 18 meeting. APPROVED A motion was made to approve the permit to allow the holiday themed art exhibit by Trish Biddle. Motion: McMillan Second: Murray Ayes: Bartlett, Cook, Esparza, Ingraham, McMillan, Messing and Murray Nays: None Abstain: None Vote: 7 -0 Motion Carried. 4. DISCUSSION 4A. STROKES OF ART IN THE SQUARE RECEPTION AND EXHIBIT FEBRUARY 22, 2015 Southlake Arts Council member Messing led the discussion to plan the Strokes of Art in the Square reception on February 22, 2015. Specific areas of responsibilities for the reception were discussed. The Council was also informed that the jury selection for the artwork will be held November 14; the People's Choice contest will be enhanced; sponsorship opportunities will be available; and staff will obtain City Manager approval of a variance for alcohol to be served at the reception. 4B. PUBLIC ART WEBSITE ENHANCEMENTS Deputy Director Edmondson shared information about enhancements made to the City's public art website and planned future enhancements including a public art map. The following suggestions for a potential website URL were also given: ArtsinSouthlake.com, SouthlakeCulture.com and YourSouthlakeArt.com. Staff will look into purchasing a URL for the public art website. FUTURE PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITIES Deputy Director Edmondson led the Arts Council in a discussion about future public art opportunities and responded to questions. Members discussed the process for the next public art projects (roundabout at Sam School Road /Peytonville and The Marq Southlake Phase I), with a possible CaII to Artists for Arts Council consideration in January. The public art project in Frank Edgar Cornish IV Park involves changes to the public art policy and will be presented at a later date. The revised murals for BJs Restaurant are currently on hold. Mural concepts for Trader Joe's may be discussed at the December 9 Arts Council meeting. 5. PUBLIC FORUM No one was present to address the Arts Council during Public Forum. 6.
