4. REPORTS
4A. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
1. CHANGES TO LIBRARY SPECIAL EVENT HOURS
City Librarian Pfledderer discussed the recent Town Hall Security meeting
regarding leaving the Town Hall open during special events in the Square. The
Library will close when traffic shuts down and is estimated to close around
2:OOpm.
2. CHANGES TO COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY
City Librarian Pfledderer discussed the policy and recent elimination of terms that
are outdated and include more current terms such as eBooks and audiobooks.
She noted the primary change would be how the Library would be processing the
withdrawn items. She said they would like to use an outside company called,
Better World Books, a for - profit company used to raise money for literacy
charities. The company provides the shipping materials and pays the shipping
costs. Previously the City had no return for withdrawn materials. This change
would allow for a 15% return for any sold items as well as help the Library handle
these materials more effectively. Items stored on the 4 floor of Town Hall will be
removed to allow for space for new recreation center staff. This item will go
before the City Council on November 18 for approval. Ms. Pfledderer responded
to questions.
3. LIBRARY FACILITY UPDATE
City Librarian Pfledderer discussed the Library's space and technology needs
over the next five years. She said she is working with staff to identify the
Library's immediate and long term needs with regard to space and technology.
The goal is to create interest in the Library by establishing eye- catching displays
at the front of the Library. She showed a mock -up of a display table that is
customized to fit the space at the front of the Library and also discussed lighting
options. Staff was directed to follow -up on potential signage to direct customers
to the Library.
