CALL TO ORDER Chair Bartlett called the meeting of the Southlake Arts Council to order at 6:04 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Southlake Arts Council and are enacted with one motion. Chair Bartlett read the consent agenda item for the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE MAY 27, 2014 SOUTHLAKE ARTS COUNCIL MEETING There were no corrections to the minutes APPROVED A motion was made to approve the minutes from the last meeting. CONSIDER 3A. RECOMMENDATION ON PROPOSED FY 2015 PUBLIC ART FUND ANNUAL BUDGET Director Tribble presented the proposed FY 2015 Public Art Fund Budget for Southlake Arts Council consideration and responded to questions regarding funding and timing for art pieces for the community recreation center and for the upcoming roundabouts. The Arts Council discussed the item. APPROVED A motion was made to recommend acceptance of the proposed FY 2015 Public Art Fund Annual Budget as presented by Chris Tribble. Motion: McMillan Second: Esparza, Alvarez Ayes: Alvarez, Bartlett, Cook, Esparza, Ingraham, McMillan, Messing, Murray Nays: None Abstain: None Vote: 8 -0 4. DISCUSSION 4A. JULY AND AUGUST MEETINGS The Southlake Arts Council discussed combining its July and August meetings and selected Tuesday, July 29, 2014 for the next meeting. Discussion of Agenda Item 4C, Texas Rangers Baseball event was included during discussion of this item. See comments below. 4B. PROPOSED MURALS FOR BJ'S RESTAURANT & BREWHOUSE The Southlake Arts Council previewed concepts of two exterior murals proposed for BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, to be located at East Southlake Blvd and North Kimball Ave. The murals are proposed for the front entry elevation and the rear elevation and depict turn of the century industrial laborers and their relentless commitment to their livelihood. City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Minutes of the June 10, 2014 Southlake Arts Council Meeting Page 3 of 4 Principal Planner Daniel Cortez, City of Southlake Planning & Development Services, was present to respond to questions and receive the Art Council's feedback on the proposed murals before proceeding with final concept design and approval. The Arts Council offered suggestions to have the murals' subject less industrial and more agricultural to better represent Southlake and Texas history. The murals will be brought back for the Arts Council's formal recommendation at the July 29, 2014 meeting. 4C. TEXAS RANGERS BASEBALL RECEPTION AND EXHIBIT SEPTEMBER 7, 2014 The Southlake Arts Council discussed preparations for the September 7, 2014 Texas Rangers Baseball reception and exhibit. The following committees will provide updates at the July 29 Arts Council meeting: Graphics (Jesika Cook); Artwork (Lamberto Alvarez); Food and Decorations (Tamara McMillan, Merlene Ingraham, Miriam Murray); Interactive Activities (Terri Messing, Christina Esparza, Leslie Bartlett); and Entertainment (Terri Messing). 4C. FUTURE PUBLIC ART OPPORTUNITIES The Southlake Arts Council members would like the City to add an "events" section to the City's Community Programs /Cultural Arts and Special Events webpages where a list of current and upcoming activities could be listed, as well as an archival section of previous activities that could include graphics from past events. Also requested was to add a link on the Southlake Arts Council's webpage to the "events" current and archival pages. Terri Messing reported APEX continues to work on a Battle of the Bands -type competition event for May 30, 2015, in conjunction with the City's annual Southlake Summer Kick -Off event. The event will be a pilot for future events to be held in the new amphitheater venue at the Community Recreation Center. 5. PUBLIC FORUM No one was present to speak at Public Forum. 6.
