RESOLUTION NO. 89-40
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE APPROVAL
AND STUDY OF FREEWAY IMPROVEMENTS OF STATE
HIGHWAY 114/12] BETWEEN AND WITHIN THE CITY
LIMITS OF SOUTHLAKE, GRAPEVINE, BEDFORD,
EULESS, AND IRVING; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the State Highway 121/State Highway 114 corridor
located in Grapevine and on the northern border of the
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport handles significant
levels of traffic for the region; and
WHEREAS, to the west of the corridor State Highway 114, F.M.
1709, and State Highway 26 are to be improved in State Department
of Highways and Public Transportation 10-Year Project Development
Plan as major traffic corridor in the same region; and
WHEREAS, State Highway 170 and State Highway 360 are new
highways scheduled to be constructed west of the State Highway
114/121 corridor; and
WHEREAS, to the east of the corridor State Highway 121,
Interstate Highway 35E, and Interstate Highway 635 are to be
improved in the State Department of Highways and Public
Transportation 10-Year Project Development Plan, and additionally
State Highway 190 is a planned east-west freeway to be
constructed east of State Highway 114/121 corridor; and
WHEREAS, these area improvements are projected to channel
171,000 vehicles per day through the State Highway 114/121
corridor in the year 2010, and a need also exists for "major
improvements" to the State Highway 114/121 corridor; and
WHEREAS, major improvements and expansion to the State
Highway 114/121 corridor are the desire of state, county and
municipal governments and private businesses and real estate
interests, and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is
predicted to attract 53,700 vehicles per day through the State
Highway 114/121 corridor; and
WHEREAS, major improvements to the State Highway 114/121
corridor will serve as a major source of relief for traffic
congestion and increased mobility in this corridor to the benefit
of Southlake residents and the general public; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City of Southlake strongly supports
and encourages a feasibility study for improvements to the State
Highway 114/121 corridor and requests the Highway Commission to
approve the proposed study at its September 1989 public hearing.
