2014-05-13 CITY O F SOUTHLAKE Senior Advisory Commission Meeting: May 13, 2014 LOCATION: Senior Center 307 Parkwood Drive Southlake, Texas Members Present: Secretary Marge Kyle; SAC members Beverly Blake, Jean Boland, Charlie Boyd, Louis Braun and Barbara Pappy Commission Members Absent: Chair Dick McCauley (deceased 4/17/14), Vice Chair Nancy Sporn and SAC member David Baltimore Staff Members Present: Steve Moore, Recreation Superintendent; Soheila Phelps, Senior Services Coordinator; Recreation Supervisor Ryan McGrail; and Assistant to the Director Cassie Holtz Staff Members Absent: Director of Community Services Chris Tribble and Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank Guests: City of Southlake Volunteer Coordinator Catherine Huckaby Liaisons: CARS Chair Brighton Greene Public Forum: None 1. CALL TO ORDER Secretary Marge Kyle called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 1:12 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Commission and are enacted with one motion. Secretary Kyle read the consent agenda items into the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE APRIL 18, 2014 REGULAR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION. There were no corrections made to the minutes. APPROVED A motion was made to accept the minutes of the April 18, 2014 meeting as presented. DISCUSSION 3A. SOUTHLAKE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM PRESENTATION City Volunteer Coordinator Catherine Huckaby presented information about the City's Volunteer Southlake Program and responded to questions during the discussion. The Volunteer Southlake Newsletter and Volunteer Southlake Opportunities chart was distributed. Additional information about the Program is available at www. VACANT CHAIR POSITION Recreation Superintendent Steve Moore presented information on the process to fill the vacant chair position on the Senior Advisory Commission left by the recent death of Chair McCauley. Staff responded to questions as the item was discussed. A consider item will be placed on the June meeting agenda to elect a chairman to fill the vacancy. 4. REPORTS 4A. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank was not present to present the City Manager's Office report. Assistant to the Director Cassie Holtz provided the Community Services report about progress on the Community Recreation Center. Recreation Superintendent Steve Moore reported the FY 2014 Senior Services budget will be presented for a Commission recommendation at an upcoming meeting. 4B. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS MMOW representative Mary King was not present at the meeting to provide a monthly report. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS Chair Brighton Greene summarized the CARS monthly participation report for April and reported fluctuation of trips. The recent annual CARS Drivers Appreciation Dinner was well attended and Dick McCauley was recognized for his contributions to the CARS organization. 4D. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported about upcoming events and programs at the Center. Attendance at senior events was discussed. The Commission would like to increase attendance through expanded advertising and marketing of the Center. A few suggested marketing targets are the local homeowners associations, churches and medical facilities. Community Services Marketing Coordinator Jenni McClure and Lisa Adams with CARS will be invited to the next meeting to discuss marketing efforts for the Senior Center. 4E. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board member Nancy Sporn was not present to provide the SSFI report. 5. PUBLIC FORUM Secretary Marge Kyle opened the public forum. There being no one to speak during public forum, public forum was closed. At this time the Commission agreed the July SAC meeting would be canceled and the cancellation posted. 6. CONSIDER — There were no items to consider at this meeting. 7.
