PROJECT: Sign Variance for St. Laurence Church
EXECUTIVE
SUMMARY: St. Laurence Church is requesting a variance to the Sign Ordinance No. 704-F
requirements for maximum height and a prohibited sign type for a proposed
monument sign located at 519 N. Kimball Avenue, Southlake, Texas.
DETAILS: The original monument sign for St. Laurence Church was removed with the North
Kimball Avenue construction project. The project widened the street as well as
increased the elevation by approximately four (4) feet. A ± 3 foot retaining wall and
± 4 foot wrought iron fence were added along the right of way of Kimball Avenue
that block visibility of a standard monument sign from the street. The applicant is
requesting approval of a monument sign that exceeds maximum allowed height.
The sign type proposed is categorized as a pole sign which is prohibited by the
sign ordinance. The columns and materials proposed will match the existing
exterior materials of the church building. The maximum allowed height at this
location is 6 feet 6 inches. The proposed overall height is approximately 16 feet.
