Case No. Attachment D SV14-007 Page 1 Sign Variance Application Please demonstrate that the following conditions are applicable to the requested sign variance: That a literal enforcement of the sign regulation will create an unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty on the applicant. It is our opinion that due to the distance from the highway, the speed of the traffic on Hwy 114, and the topography of the land that a sign of the dimensions allowed by the ordinance (48SF) would be ineffective. 2. That the situation causing the unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty is unique to the affected property and is not self imposed. On another property where the sign could be placed closer to the street, and where existing topography is not an issue, the existing ordinance is not prohibitive. However, because of the unique qualities of the Carillon property, the ordinance is prohibitive for an effective sign. That the variance will not injure and will be wholly compatible with the use and permitted development of adjacent properties. The height, size, and placement of the sign will not adversely affect adjacent properties. Adjacent properties will likely benefit from the permitted development. 4. That the variance will be in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance. The sign will be conservative in nature (see exhibit), and it is in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance which is to make potential customers aware of a business opportunity which will benefit the community as a whole.
