2014-04-08 CITY O SOUTHLAKE Senior Advisory Commission Meeting: April 8, 2014 LOCATION: Senior Center 307 Parkwood Drive Southlake, Texas Members Present: Chair Dick McCauley, Vice Chair Nancy Sporn and Secretary Marge Kyle; SAC members David Baltimore, Beverly Blake, Jean Boland, Charlie Boyd, Louis Braun and Barbara Pappy Commission Members Absent: None Staff Members Present: Ben Thatcher, Assistant City Manager; Chris Tribble, Director of Community Services; Steve Moore, Recreation Superintendent; Soleila Phelps, Senior Services Coordinator; Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank; Recreation Supervisor Ryan McGrail; and Assistant to the Director Cassie Holtz Guests: Esther C. McGill Liaisons: CARS Chair Brighton Greene Public Forum: None 1. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Dick McCauley called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 1:05 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Commission and are enacted with one motion. Chair McCauley read the consent agenda items into the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE MARCH 4, 2014 REGULAR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION. There were no corrections made to the minutes. APPROVED A motion was made to accept the minutes of the March 4, 2014 meeting as presented. SAC member Blake arrived at the meeting at this time. 3. DISCUSSION 3A. 2013 CITIZENS SURVEY Assistant City Manager Ben Thatcher presented the 2013 Citizen Satisfaction Survey and responded to questions during the discussion. Results of the Survey are available at www. CitvofSouthlake .com /CitizenSurvev. 3B. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM Chair Dick McCauley initiated discussion about volunteers and tracking of volunteer service in the City, specifically senior center volunteers. Commission members were interested in integration of senior center volunteers with the City's Volunteer Southlake Program. City Volunteer Coordinator Catherine Huckaby will be invited to the next SAC meeting to explain the Volunteer Southlake Program. CARS and MMOW monthly statistical reports will be shared with the Volunteer Coordinator. 4. REPORTS 4A. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank reported City activities and responded to questions. Upcoming events include the SPIN Candidates' Forum (April 22), Early Voting (April 28 -May 6), and May 10, 2014 City Election. Also discussed was the City's WiseGuys sprinkler incentive program. Director of Community Services Chris Tribble discussed the progress of the Community Recreation Center development and responded to questions. Fitness equipment needs for the new center will be discussed at a future meeting. 4B. Senior Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported participants at the congregate luncheons will be asked their plans for upcoming luncheons in order to obtain a more accurate headcount for the meals. 4C. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS Chair Brighton Greene summarized the CARS monthly participation report for March. CARS continue to seek volunteers and riders as it advertises its services to the public and to area hospitals and medical facilities. 4D. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported about events planned for May and June and noted attendance for senior field trips has increased. 4E. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board member Sporn reported SSFI plans to seek additional help and to make a presentation to the Bridge group. 5. PUBLIC FORUM Vice Chair Nancy Sporn opened the public forum. There being no one to speak during public forum, public forum was closed. 6. CONSIDER — There were no items to consider at this meeting. Prior to adjournment, Director Chris Tribble introduced new Assistant to the Director Cassie Holtz. 7.
