2014-03-26 CITY OF SOU THLAKE SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING: MARCH 26, 2014 LOCATION: 1400 Main Street, Southlake, Texas Southlake Town Hall — 4A SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD PRESENT: Southlake Library Board members Sally Biersmith, Christina Esparza, Kim Roberts and Cheri' Ross SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD ABSENT: Chair Brenda Flores, Lori Burr, Ayako Miyazaki STAFF PRESENT: Deputy Director of Community Services Candice Edmondson; Jennifer Tucker, Library Operations Manager; and Cynthia Pfledderer, Library Public Services Manager. OTHERS PRESENT: None 1. CALL TO ORDER Librarian Tucker called the meeting of the Southlake Library Board to order at 6:04 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Southlake Library Board and are enacted with one motion. Ms. Tucker read the consent agenda item for the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 22, 2014 REGULAR SOUTHLAKE LIBRARY BOARD MEETING. The minutes of the January 22, 2014 meeting were Tabled to the next meeting. APPROVED A motion was made to TABLE the minutes from the January 22, 2014 Southlake Library Board meeting. Motion: Ross Second: Esparza Ayes: Biersmith, Esparza, Roberts and Ross Nays: None Vote: 4 -0 Motion Carried. DEPUTY DIRECTOR'S REPORT Deputy Director Edmondson updated the Library Board on current library projects and initiatives. 3B. LIBRARY STATISTICS Youth Librarian Pfledderer presented the monthly statistics. Staff is working on ways to improve the methodology for the statistics to ensure more accurate numbers and data and received feedback for the Library Board members. The report will focus on factual data rather than formula. 4. DISCUSSION 4A. UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 1. Easter In The Park — April 13 1:30 -4:30 pm at North Park 2. Art In The Square — April 25 -27, 2014, Town Square The Southlake Library Board discussed these upcoming events and how the Library Board would be involved. 4B. SUMMER READING CLUB UPDATE 1. Sponsorship Assistance Briggs Freeman Sotheby's International Realty is sponsoring The Summer Reading Club program by providing advertising support for the program at a value of $3,750 and a $2,000 cash donation for program costs. Friends of Southlake Library (FOSL) is providing funding to pay for prizes and some of the programming for the Library Summer Reading Club program. Target Stores has also donated a grant of $2,000 for the Summer Reading program. 4C. APRIL LIBRARY BOARD MEETING Librarian Tucker presented this item. A joint meeting with the Southlake Arts Council will be held April 23 2014 at 6:00 p.m. to allow for a joint presentation of the 2013 Citizens Survey Results by the City Manager's Office. The Library Board will hold its regular meeting thereafter at 6:30 p.m. 4D. NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK PROCLAMATION Librarian Tucker presented this item. A proclamation in recognition of National Library Week, April 13 - 19, 2014, will be presented at the April 1 2014 City Council meeting to the Southlake Public Library acknowledging the contribution City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Minutes of the March 26, 2014 Southlake Library Meeting Page 3 of 3 libraries make to the community. Members of the Library Board and Library staff were encouraged to be present to accept the proclamation. 5. PUBLIC FORUM No one was present to speak at Public Forum. 6. CONSIDER — There were no consider items on the agenda for this meeting. 7.
