2014-03-04 CITY OF SOUTHLAKE Senior Advisory Commission Meeting: March 4, 2014 LOCATION: Department of Public Safety North Facility Classroom #1 100 East Dove Road Southlake, Texas Members Present: Chair Dick McCauley, Vice Chair Nancy Sporn and Secretary Marge Kyle; SAC members David Baltimore, Charlie Boyd, Louis Braun and Barbara Pappy Commission Members Absent: Beverly Blake and Jean Boland Staff Members Present: Chris Tribble, Director of Community Services; Steve Moore, Recreation Superintendent; Soleila Phelps, Senior Services Coordinator; Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank; and Recreation Supervisor Ryan McGrail Guests: None Liaisons: CARS Chair Brighton Greene Public Forum: Tom Dowyer, Silverstone Development (left prior to Public Forum) Prior to the meeting, Senior Advisory Commission members toured the new DPS North Training Facility led by Community Initiatives Officer Renni Burt. 1. CALL TO ORDER Vice Chairman Sporn called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 2:05 p.m. Agenda Item 4A was moved up on the agenda and considered next. 4. REPORTS 4A. COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER UPDATE Director of Community Services Department Tribble presented the updated schematic design for Phase I and Phase 2 of the Community Recreation Center (CRC) project and provided details about the design and updated floor plan as he City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation • Accountability • Commitment to Excellence • Teamwork Senior Advisory Commission Minutes of the March 4, 2014 Page 2 of 4 responded to questions. A webpage on the City's website (www.citvofsouthlake.com) has been created to provide citizens the latest information about the CRC project. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Commission and are enacted with one motion. Chair McCauley read the consent agenda items into the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 14, 2014 REGULAR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION. There were no corrections made to the minutes. APPROVED A motion was made to accept the minutes of the January 14, 2014 meeting as presented. Motion: McCauley Second: Baltimore Ayes: Baltimore, Boyd, Braun, Kyle, McCauley and Sporn Nays: None Abstention: Pappy (absent 1/14/14 meeting) Vote: 6 -0 -1 Motion Carried. 3. DISCUSSION: There were no discussion items for this meeting. 4. REPORTS 4B. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank reported on City activities and responded to questions from the Commission. 4C. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS MMOW representative Mary King was not present to provide a report. 4D. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS Chair Brighton Greene summarized the CARS monthly participation reports for January and February. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported about existing and future projects and activities at the Center. 4F. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board Director McCauley reported on SSFI developments and fundraising efforts. 5. PUBLIC FORUM Vice Chair Sporn opened the public forum. There being no one to speak during public forum, Vice Chair Sporn closed the public forum. Tom Dowyer, representative from Silverstone Development, attended the meeting to address the Commission about his project during Public Forum; however, left prior to public forum for another appointment. 6. CONSIDER 6A. SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION 1 QUARTER WRITTEN REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL The Commission reviewed the report to be included in the March 18, 2014 City Council meeting packet and made spelling and typographical corrections to the draft. A motion was made and unanimously approved to accept the SAC written report with the corrections as presented. 7.
