Agenda Item No. 2. Administrative Comments —
A. City Librarian's Report —
Mr. McGeath took the opportunity to compare our statistics to another high
performing library, Colleyville Public. These are the comparative numbers
since 2003
CPL SPL
Traffic: 1,000,866 1,493,100 (about 40 %)
Check outs 2,034,402 2,930,490 (about 40% )
Southlake has higher traffic and circulation, despite a budget and staffing
of about 30% less than Colleyville. Mr. McGeath is extremely focused on
outputs, high staff productivity, and getting the right mix of product. It is
this philosophy that has made the library such a success.

Ms. Tucker then gave an update on electronic resources. We are
upgrading to Polaris 4.1 R2 on January 9 The two major enhancements
will be a way to estimate accrued fines for overdue materials and the
ability to send out a second hold notice. There are are several smaller
upgrades, including a few to the cataloging system. Also, we now have
records in Polaris for all of our eContent in OverDrive. Polaris and
OverDrive are partnering together to improve the user experience. We will
have more details in February 2014, but we are hoping that our customers
will be able to search, checkout, and download eBooks all from the library
catalog.
Library Statistics -
The November and October 2013 stats show small increases from last
year. We have a nice increase in circulation, which could be attributed to
our greater availability of eContent. Programming has had an increase as
well, due to our expanded special and holiday programming.
Agenda Item 3A. Consider: Approval of the minutes from the October 23, 2013
Southlake Library Board meeting.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes. The minutes from October
23, 2013 were approved by majority vote.
