Item 4H & ICITY OF SOUTH LAKE MEMORANDUM November 14, 2013 To: City Council From: Ken Baker, AICP — Senior Director of Planning & Development Services Subject: Items 4H & 41 Action Requested: Appoint members of City Council to a working committee to assist the City staff in evaluating possible revisions to the sign ordinance regulations and landscape ordinance regulations. Background Information: During City Council's June Retreat, the question was posed, "What successes would you like to celebrate this time next year?" An item identified by City Council was an evaluation of the City's current landscape ordinance and sign ordinance. As such, staff is beginning work on this effort. In the past, the City Council has formed work groups to assist staff in the development of ordinance revisions. Appointed Council Members would work with staff to modify ordinances. Once revisions to the sign and landscaping ordinances are revised by the working committee a presentation of the proposed modifications would be made to the entire City Council at a future work session. Following the presentation of the modifications to the ordinances, City Council can instruct staff to move forward on adoption of the sign ordinance and landscaping ordinance changes (SPIN, Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing, and City Council public hearing). Financial Considerations: None. Strategic Link: This effort is strategically aligned with corporate objective C3 — Provide attractive and unique spaces for enjoyment of personnel interest. Citizen Input: A SPIN Meeting will be held on any proposed ordinance changes prior to the Planning and Zoning Commission's and City Council's review. Legal Review: Any changes to the ordinances will be reviewed by the City Attorney. Alternatives: Do not form working committee and have staff develop recommended changes to the ordinances and present these proposed changes to City Council at a future work session.
