1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman McCauley called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to

2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the
Commission and are enacted with one motion. Chair McCauley read the consent
agenda items into the record.
2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 10, 2013 REGULAR
SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION.
APPROVED
There were no corrections to the minutes.
A motion was made to accept the minutes of the September 10, 2013 meeting as
submitted.

3. DISCUSSION:
3A. SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION WRITTEN REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps distributed copies of the draft SAC
report for City Council. SAC agreed to postpone review of the report. The report
will highlight senior activities during the preceding fiscal quarter and will reflect
which quarter is being represented in the title.
4. REPORTS
4A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS
MMOW representative Mary King distributed the MMOW monthly participation
report and responded to questions. Leftover meals and "to go" meals will be
reflected in monthly reports.
4B. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE
CARS representative Neal Perkins distributed the CARS monthly participation
summary and reported an increase in ridership and volunteer driver recruitment.
Suggestions for advertising CARS' transportation services for medical and dental
appointments were discussed.
4C. SPIN
SPIN representative David Baltimore reported on SPIN meetings regarding
proposed developments for the Stacey property on FM 1709 and a senior
living /memory care facility adjacent to Shady Oaks on FM 1709. The
Commission expressed interest in having presentations on the developments to
seniors at -large at a senior luncheon.
4D. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR
Senior Services Coordinator Soheila Phelps reported Director of Planning and
Development Ken Baker will be guest speaker at the next senior luncheon. Other
speakers will be invited for future luncheons, time and schedules permitting.
Meetings will be held with the programming and fundraising groups involved in

the Volunteer Interest Program. Programs and activities including the Events
Calendar and Senior Center Newsletter were reported.
4E. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC.
Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board Director McCauley reported a $5,000
contribution from Five Star Ford has been deposited and a check for $600 from
MMOW to match for Bingo cards and prizes was received. SSFI is requesting a
list of items needed by the City that may be supplemented with contributions from
potential benefactors.
4F. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES
Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank reported on activities
including a presentation to honor Veterans November 5 at the City Council
meeting and the Boards and Commissions Appreciation Reception to be held
November 23, followed by the Home for the Holidays Tree Lighting event.
Commission members were encouraged to participate in the 2013 Citizen
Satisfaction survey, which can be found at
www. CitvofSouthlake .com /citizensurvey and www.MvSouthlakeNews. A website
has also been added to the City's main webpage to report DFW Airport noise.
Sidewalk failures in Stone Lakes and Southridge Lakes subdivisions were
reported to staff.
Deputy Director Kari Happold briefly discussed recent meetings with the
architects of the Community Recreation Center. SAC will continue to receive
progress updates.
5. PUBLIC FORUM
Chair McCauley opened the public forum and asked for anyone wishing to speak
to come forward.
Mary King, MMOW representative, announced MMOW will host a free
community service work shop November 1, 2013 at their office including a
Dementia Virtual Tour.
Chair McCauley closed the public forum.
6. CONSIDER — There were no consider items for this meeting.
