Resolution No. 13-050, appoints a member to the Southlake Arts
Council.
Appoint a member to the Southlake Arts Council.
Each year, the City Council appoints members of the public to various boards, commissions and
committees. Each member is appointed for a two-year term, unless indicated otherwise. With
the exception of Southlake Business Council, appointed members shall be citizens of
Southlake. Members of the public indicate their interest to volunteer by submitting a completed
application to the City Secretary's Office. Applications are available on the City's website and
from the City Secretary's Office.
On May 15, 2012 Council discussed the current appointment process for boards, commissions
and committees. At this meeting, Council directed staff to implement bi-annual appointments to
ease the process for Council, staff and applicants. At the direction of Council, staff prepared a
schedule which allows Council the opportunity to review applications, interview applicants and
appoint members in the months of June and October.
On October 15, 2013, Council made appointments to the Southlake Arts Council, Southlake
Business Council, Crime Control and Prevention District Board, Library Board, Metroport Teen
Court, and Senior Advisory Commission. At this meeting, an appointment was made in error.
Ms. Leslie Walker was appointed to Place 7 on the Southlake Arts Council. Ms. Walker had
indicated that she would not be seeking reappointment due to family commitments. Ms. Walker
advised that she looks forward to reapplying in the future.
Staff has contacted applicants —Christina Esparza and Tamara McMillan —who identified
Southlake Arts Council within their top five preferences. Ms. McMillan and Ms. Esparza have
indicated that they would like to be considered for the vacant position. Both applications are
located in your October 2013 appointment binder.
