Call to Order — The meeting was called to order by Chairman Baltimore. Multi- purpose Facility Flyover — Director Tribble presented the flyover presentation of the proposed multi- purpose facility to be presented to Southlake voters in 2013. He responded to questions regarding the proposed facility. Agenda Item No. 2A. Consent: Approval of the October 9, 2012 regular Senior Advisory Commission meeting minutes -- There were no corrections to the minutes A motion was made to approve the minutes of the October 9, 2012 meeting. Agenda Item No. 3. Discussion A. Guest Presentation — Baylor Regional Hospital President Steve Newton and Marketing Director Dee Dee Ogrin — Mr. Newton highlighted the hospital's history, patient statistics, their commitment to Southlake, the multiple services available and the hospital expansion project. Agenda Item No. 4. Reports A. Senior Services Coordinator — Senior Services Coordinator Nancy Brown reported on programs and upcoming events. October had record high attendance for senior programs and events. The Center's kitchen will undergo an upgrade to provide additional storage and counter space. The congregate meal line has been reversed to help alleviate congestion. Plans are underway for the Center's fifteen year anniversary celebration on April 30, 2013. Staff is investigating expansion of field trips to include overnight or extended trips. Seniors Support Southlake Program is doing well. Staff is also working on a new point program to encourage physical fitness and the Walk Across Texas program. B. Metroport Meals on Wheels Report — The monthly report for October was distributed by Darla Fowler. There will be no congregate luncheon at the center on December 25 due to the holiday. c. CARS Report — The CARS report was distributed by Neal Perkins. CARS experienced an increase in trips in October with 182 one -way trips, the majority (128) being to the Southlake Senior Center. Medical trips have also declined. CARS has partnered with Rockfish Seafood Grill for a fundraising event December 3- December 9. D. SPIN — Chair Baltimore presented information concerning SPIN. Currently SPIN is undergoing reorganization to better fit the needs of Southlake citizens. E. Southlake Steering Committee — A report was given by Bernie McCauley about Committee activities. The Steering Committee is holding a raffle fundraising event at Christmas and is involved in numerous other activities. F. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. — A report was provided by Dick McCauley on recent SSFI activities. City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ! City Manager's Office & Community Services — Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank was not present. Director Tribble provided a report. Deputy Director Happold reported SAC member Pat Burnett recently resigned due to health issues and that Louis Braun had been appointed to the Commission. The Commission was encouraged to attend the November 17 Home for the Holidays Board & Commissions Appreciation Reception and the other festivities. H. Guest Schedule — The guest speaker for the December meeting will be Finance Director Sharen Jackson. Tarrant County Commission Gary Fickes was mentioned as a possible guest speaker to discuss the DFW Corridor. (11/27/12 Update — December SAC meeting canceled; Guest moved to January 8 meeting) Agenda Item No. 5. Public Forum Mike Mills, 1528 Main Street, Southlake, presented information about Pickle Bali, a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis and responded to questions. Agenda Item No. 6. Consider: A. Development of a recommendation to the City Council on a revision to the age requirement for Senior Activity Center Membership — Commission members discussed changing the minimum age for senior center membership. The majority of members favored lowering the age from 55 to 50. Several Commission members discussed leaving the age requirement at 55 years old or eliminating an age requirement. The Commission also discussed changing the name of the Center. An item will be added to the next meeting agenda to address this issue. A motion was made to change the minimum age requirement for Senior Activity Center membership to age 50. Motion: McCauley Second: Sporn The Commission discussed the age requirement further. Development of a recommendation to the City Council on a revision to the Senior Center hours of operation — The Commission discussed extending the current Center's hours of operation (currently Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m.) to include Fridays. Budget issues may be addressed if hours are extended. A motion was made to revise the Center hours of operation to 9:00 a.m. — 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Motion: McCauley Second: Sporn Ayes: Baltimore, Blake, Boland, Boyd, McCauley and Sporn Nays: None Abstention: None Vote: 6 -0 C. Cancellation of December 11, 2012 Senior Advisory Commission meeting — This item was discussed and it was the consensus of the Commission to cancel the meeting on December 11, 2012. The Commission requested a special Senior Advisory Commission meeting be held on November 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. to consider election of officers and renaming of the facility. A motion was made to cancel the meeting on December 11, 2012.
