Sign Variance Application
Demonstration
Please demonstrate that the followln editions area licable to the nested si n
variance`
Thai a literal enforcement of the sign regulation will crate an unnecessary hardship or
practical difficulty on the applicant.
Applicant is seeking a variance for the height of his logo icon (airplane), which is an
integral part of his corporate identity_ Forcing his logo icon to conform to the maximum
size allowed by ordinance would require either making his letters illegibly small or
severely compromising the format and layout of his company's established identity.
2_ That the situation causing the unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty is unique to the
affected property and is not self imposed.
This is a difficult point to argue since the applicant designed and built this building for his
own use, but given the size and stature of this single -tenant building, the requested sign
size is appropriate and —except for the logo icon —completely conforms to the sign
ordinance restrictions.
3_ That the variance .will not injure and will be wholly compatible with the use and permitted
development of adjacent properties.
Nearly all other buildings in this business park are multi -tenant, and many have multiple
signs. This will be the only sign on this building.
4. That the variance will be in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance.
Individually, the three sections of the logo icon each conforms to the logo height
restrictions of the sign ordinance; it's only when added together that they exceed the
height allowance. The fact that the logo icon is a lighter color and falls "behind" the
letters also lessens its visual impact; the letters —not the logo —are the emphasis.
