CALL TO ORDER Chairman McCauley called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 12:59 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Commission and are enacted with one motion. Chair McCauley read the consent agenda items into the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 13, 2013 REGULAR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION. APPROVED There were no corrections to the minutes. A motion was made to approve the minutes of the August 13, 2013 meeting as submitted. DISCUSSION: 3A. GUEST PRESENTATION — FIRE CHIEF MIKE STARR AND DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF WADE CARROLL Fire Chief Starr updated the Commission about fire department initiatives and answered questions. Deputy Chief Carroll was present to respond to questions from the Commission. 4. REPORTS 4A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS MMOW representative Mary King distributed the MMOW monthly participation report and responded to questions. Leftover meals and "to go" meals will continue to be monitored and analyzed. 4B. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS representative Neal Perkins distributed the CARS monthly participation summary and reported an increase in ridership and CARS new location at DPS West facility. 4C. SPIN SPIN representative David Baltimore provided a SPIN report about SPIN activities and meetings. 4D. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR Recreation coordinator Soheila Phelps reported new chairs were acquired for the Center and an informal committee will review needs for the Volunteer Interest Program with the volunteers already signed up. Other recent accomplishments and on -going programs and activities for the senior activity center were reported, including the new rolling Events Calendar and Senior Center Newsletter. 4E. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board Director McCauley reported SSFI developments, including a joint sponsorship with MMOW for prizes for the 1 City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Senior Advisory Commission Minutes of the September 10, 2013 Page 3 of 4 Tuesday Bingo event, and SSFI's endeavor to secure contributions for SSFI to help supplement senior center field trips. 4F. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank distributed articles regarding Southlake's enhanced recycling services and reported on the upcoming 2013 Citizen satisfaction survey, which can be found at www. CityofSouthlake .com /citizensurvey and www.MvSouthlakeNews. Deputy Director Kari Happold updated the Commission on progress of the Community Recreation Center, construction of Bicentennial Park Phase II, and upcoming City events. 4G. GUEST SCHEDULE The Commission discussed moving the guest speaker schedule from the Senior Advisory Commission meeting to the congregate luncheon. Logistics of moving the guest presentation will be brainstormed and presented at a future meeting. Commission members discussed personally developing an email network group, not associated with the City and completely separate from the City, to notify Southlake seniors about illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths of local citizens, since the City may not disseminate or be a resource for such personal information. 5. PUBLIC FORUM Chair McCauley opened the public forum and asked for anyone wishing to speak to come forward. There being no one wishing to speak, Chair McCauley closed the public forum. 6. CONSIDER Agenda Item 6A and 6B were considered together. 6A. RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE COMMUNITY SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE 6B. RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL ON THE COMMUNITY SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS APPROVED Deputy Director Happold presented the proposed CARS and MMOW agreements and responded to questions.
