CALL TO ORDER Chairman McCauley called the meeting of the Senior Advisory Commission to order at 1:05 p.m. 2. CONSENT AGENDA Consent Agenda items are considered to be routine by the Commission and are enacted with one motion. Chair McCauley read the consent agenda items into the record. 2A. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE MARCH 12, 2013 REGULAR SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION. APPROVED A correction was made to delete Jean Boland in the vote for Item 7, Adjournment, since she was not present at the March 12, 2013 meeting. A motion was made to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2013 meeting as presented and amended. DISCUSSION: 3A. GUEST PRESENTATION — CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE RANDY WILLIAMSON City Council candidate Randy Williamson shared his experience in the community and with youth sports, his background in city government and aspirations as a City Councilman. Mr. Williamson responded to questions from Commission members and listened to Commission members' expressions regarding a senior center. 3B. REVIEW SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION RESPONSIBILITIES Chairman McCauley talked about the Commission's responsibility to collectively represent Southlake seniors to the City Council. Detailed ways to engage seniors in activities, special events and programs as well as how members might improve meeting and greeting visitors was discussed. Practical suggestions for improvement were offered. 4. CONSIDER - THERE ARE NO ITEMS TO CONSIDER FOR THIS MEETING 5. REPORTS 5A. METROPORT MEALS ON WHEELS MMOW representatives Darla Fowler and Mary King reported on the congregate and delivered meals provided by MMOW. MMOW requested assistance of two (2) Parks and Recreation staff for the June 11 luncheon. MMOW recently hired Amy Rickets, Program Director for Southlake, and Nancy Downer, Program Director for surrounding territory. 5B. CALL A RIDE SOUTHLAKE CARS representative Neal Perkins distributed the CARS monthly participation report and highlighted the number of trips. CARS is seeking donations for the Annual CARS Volunteer Driver dinner to be held April 24, 2013. SPIN Senior Advisory Commission member David Baltimore reminded members of the SPIN Candidates' Forum for the CISD School Board on April 23, 2013 at Town Hall. 5D. SENIOR SERVICES COORDINATOR Senior Services Coordinator Nancy Brown reported her resignation, recent improvements to the senior center, progress on a profile assessment questionnaire, status of the new membership roster form, name tag program and business cards for the senior center. 5E. SOUTHLAKE SENIOR FUNDING, INC. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc., Board Director McCauley reported a recent meeting held with an anonymous benefactor to acquire funding of a feasibility study for a new senior center at the existing site. 5F. CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE & COMMUNITY SERVICES Deputy Director Kari Happold read the City Manager's Weekly Update to City Council regarding the proposed community recreation center, which will be discussed at a joint meeting of the City Council and Senior Advisory Commission on May 21, 2013. The Update noted the discussion will include options to develop phasing construction of the community recreation center, beginning with the community /senior center wing of the building. Moving forward, the format of the minutes for the Senior Advisory Commission meetings will be modified to be consistent with other City boards and commission minutes to include the topic, motion, vote and reason for dissent, if provided. Communications & Website Manager Pilar Schank distributed articles from the Dallas Morning News, the Southlake Journal and www.MySouthlakeNews regarding Southlake's position as a place for empty nesters, the upcoming MasterWorks Music Series and Mobile Crud Cruiser Day. 5G. GUEST SCHEDULE Police Chief Mylett is confirmed for the May 14 meeting and Fire Chief Starr is confirmed for June 11 Senior Advisory Commission meetings. The Commission directed staff to add Mayor Pro Tem Brandon Bledsoe to the guest schedule. The Commission directed staff to put an item to consider cancellation of the July or August meeting on the next meeting agenda. SENIOR CENTER COORDINATOR UPDATE Deputy Director Kari Happold provided information on the progress to hire a replacement senior center coordinator. Over 100 applications were received and are being reviewed to select candidates for preliminary interviews with the Deputy Director Happold, Recreation Superintendent and Recreation Supervisor. Second interviews will be conducted with Director Chris Tribble, followed by a meet and greet session at the Senior Center. 6. PUBLIC FORUM Chair McCauley opened the public forum and asked for anyone wishing to speak to come forward. There being no one wishing to speak, Chair McCauley closed the public forum. 7.
