Agenda Item No. 2. Approval of the Minutes — October 17, 2012 SPIN Standing
Committee Meeting

Agenda Item No. 3. Board and Commission Orientation
Ben Thatcher provided an orientation binder and discussed the contents. See attached
presentation.
Agenda Item No. 4. Update on City Council Action regarding SPIN Mission Statement
Alison Ortowski reported the City Council's approval of the new mission statement and
reported on SPIN appointments.
Agenda Item No. 5. Discuss and consider making recommendations regarding
Southlake Program for the Involvement of Neighborhoods program improvements:
Program Goals
A motion was made to approve the goals as revised:
1. We will provide the public with balanced and objective information to assist them in
understanding issues, opportunities, and /or solutions.
2. We will inform residents about the City's responsibilities, services and results.
3. We will support the community by providing opportunities for citizens to discuss and
deliberate issues affecting them and will also communicate how public input
influenced decision - making.
4. We will increase citizen engagement through the use of new and emerging
technologies.

David Baltimore said the Senior Advisory commission recommended to Council the age
be moved from 55 to 50 for participation in the activities sponsored by the city and
increase the days open to 5 vs 4.
Agenda Item No. 7. Discussion on Future Agenda Items
Lou Hillman recommended we make the "Parking Lot" process a permanent part of
SPIN Meetings.

SPIN Neighborhood Reports
November 13, 2012
SPIN 1:
• Hosted SPIN Meeting on November 5, 2012 on Verizon expansion at Dove Road
facility. Those in attendance expressed some concern over noise, trees, chain
link fence vs wrought iron, effect on potential new home development, and size
of parking lot. Verizon project was passed by the Planning & Zoning
Commission on November 7, 2012 with stipulations regarding landscaping and
fencing.
• Mr. Baker put the Verizon developer in touch with the developer of the potential
new home development in SPIN #1 (also subject of SPIN meeting on October
22) between Kirkwood Boulevard and SH 114, north of the Verizon campus.
• A SPIN #1 meeting was held on October 22, 2012 regarding residential
development described above. Meeting was hosted by Ron Evans as Mr. Baker
was unable to attend.
SPIN 4:
• Mr. Hillman met with a Stephen Reed, co founder of Madison Lee Center for
Exceptional Children. He is planning a school at 853 Shady Lane. Mr. Reed
came by Mr. Hillman's office with the project plans. Mr. Reed has met with
Dennis Killough (Planning Department); however has not contacted staff
regarding a SPIN meeting date.
• New residents in Cotswald / Estancia have expressed concern about the
estimated completion date of the Kimball Road project from SH 114 to Kirkwood.
