13 CITY OF SOUTHLAKE Department of Planning & Development Services STAFF REPORT March 13, 2013 CASE NO: SV13-002 PROJECT: 280 Sports EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: 280 Sports is requesting a variance to Sign Ordinance No. 704-F regulations for a monument sign that exceeds maximum sign face height and maximum height for the overall sign. 280 Sports is located at 280 Commerce Street. REQUEST: The applicant is requesting approval of a variance to sign ordinance regulations for an existing development monument sign that exceeds the allowed maximum for sign face height and the total maximum height for the monument sign. The existing monument sign has a sign face height of 5 feet and a total sign height of 7 feet 6 inches. The maximum sign face height allowed is 4 feet and the total maximum sign height allowed is 6 feet 6 inches. A permit was issued based on corrected plans, however, was constructed on uncorrected plans which resulted in a failed final inspection. The options for the applicant are to bring the sign into compliance (reconstruction) or seek approval of a variance. HISTORY: July - August 2012; City staff reviewed a submitted application for a permanent development monument sign for 280 Sports. The application exhibit stated dimensions that were not in compliance. Staff then provided corrections with specific sign dimensions on the submitted exhibit to the applicant stating what is compliant with Sign Ordinance No. 704-F regulations. Later, when staff inspected the erected sign, it was found to be constructed based on uncorrected plans therefore failed final inspection. The options for the applicant are to bring the sign into compliance or request a variance to sign ordinance regulations.
