Agenda Item No. 2. Administrative Comments —
A. City Librarian's Report —
Ms. Tucker discussed the weekly mini-trainings. A topic is picked and then
ten minutes is used to train on that topic. Different staff members lead the
training based on expertise. Ms. Tucker determines topics and schedules
the trainings. The weekly trainings are scheduled three times during the
day to catch staff that start at various times during the day.
Ms. Tucker sends a weekly Polaris lesson for staff to review and then
answer a question or perform a task. The librarians have provided several
evening trainings for customers who want to learn to use e -devices.

One of the major staff concerns was communication. These mini-trainings,
the daily five minutes meetings and the weekly emails to staff have
significantly helped with bettering organizational communication.
Library Statistics--
Mr.
tatistics-
Mr. McGeath briefly reviewed the October statistics. We are having a little
trouble gathering our online usage statistics, so he is waiting until he can
acquire those numbers. Although there has been a decrease in traffic,
there is an increase in circulation. Volunteer hours have increased. Non-
resident library cards issued have increased. Mr. McGeath thinks that non-
residents want access to our digital libraries, but not particularly to visit the
Library.
Overdrive statistics are the biggest part of the e -circulation component.
The platform fee is larger, but there is no limit on the number of
circulations. Freading is much less expensive, but we pay per download.
Freading material is more second-tier than Overdrive. We are still feeling
our way in the e -content arena as this is relatively new for us.
B. Follow up Board and Commission Training Modules —
Most Board Members have finished the training modules. City staff did an
excellent job of creating the training modules. There were a couple of
suggestions for improvements.
Agenda Item 3A. Consider: Approval of the minutes from the December 12, 2012
Southlake Library Board meeting.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes. The minutes from
December 12, 2012 were approved by majority vote.
Agenda Item No. 4. Public Forum —
There was no one present to address the Library Board during the Public Forum. The
Public Forum was opened and closed at 6:25 p.m.
Agenda Item No. 5A. Discussion: Advocacy Program Update.
1. Library Fundraising Gala —
Mr. McGeath has decided that we are too tightly staffed to have a Gala. He
will pursue obtaining funds from the water bill donations. Ms. Pfledderer is
focusing on obtaining grants.
