Cardiac Monitors
• Current monitors are obsolete and
no longer serviced by manufacturer
• Monitors provide advanced life
support functions:
—Myocardial infarction detection
— Defibrillation
—Blood oxygen levels
— Pulse rate
— Blood Pressure
The purpose of this item is to approve the purchase of six (6) Lifepak 15 Cardiac Monitors
from Physio - Control, Inc in the amount of $255,837. This project is necessary to replace
ourcurrent models, which have been rendered obsolete. Of our five current monitors, two
(2) were manufactured in 1998, one (1) in 2002, and two (2) in 2008.
Due to their age, our monitors will no longer be serviced by the manufacturer beginning in
2013. In addition to the replacement of the five (5) existing monitors, an additional monitor
is being purchased for the engine that will be housed at DPS North.
Cardiac monitors are an important tool used to measure blood oxygen levels, pulse, blood
pressure as well as diagnose myocardial infarction and carbon monoxide poisoning. Cardiac
monitors can also provide defibrillation when necessary. Replacing these monitors ensures
that the Department is able to continue to provide the same level of advanced life support
that Southlake residents and visitors know and expect.
