Stakeholder Meeting Results
Senior Center Component
Need to keep the “hominess” of our existing center
Other centers in area are too institutional and sterile
People are what make it wonderful
Enjoy trips, parties, and programs
Billiard room, card room
Current facility should be named the SL ladies senior center
Need more components that would attract men to attend
Nicer, larger, more modern, state-of-the-art kitchen
Dishwashers, commercial ovens for food prep on site, etc.
Bridge group on Wednesday (40-60) also has food
Kitchen that would accommodate food prep and specialty cooking classes
Stakeholder Meeting Results
Senior Center Component
Exercise class space and a space with exercise equipment
Therapeutic pool
Walking track
Flexible multipurpose space for programs and activities
Access to computer equipment and education
Library and Arts Center nearby would be assets to the senior center
Separated from youth/teens
Need to select certain components that would work well with the senior center
Stakeholder Meeting Results
Senior Center Component
As long as our needs are met, there is not a concern with moving from existing site to a new, larger site
Concern about traffic – want safe access to and from
Gateway is a very busy area, and it is not easy to get out of (onto 1709)
Gateway is not a good location, it will take an awful lot of renovation to meet our needs, and its not convenient to me
SH 114 is too dangerous
We do not like the Flower Mound Community Center because Seniors were integrated in with all other ages
The right Director is what makes the center
Additional Feedback from SAC 3/9/10
Senior Center
Ballroom/dancing room (Starlight Ball)
Arlington Sr. Center - wood floor with partitions
Flexible spacing (card room, dance, etc.)
Nurses station/wellness station (BP checks, etc.)
Space for seniors only
Place to meet people with like interests
Socialization is important
Storage
Programs to attract men (poker, etc.)
Trips/Tours to Rangers & Cowboys stadiums (for ex.)
Exercise room with mirrors (to assist with instruction)
Arts & Crafts room
Additional Feedback from SAC 3/9/10
Senior Center
Arts classes with instructors
Rooms for games (Bridge, Mahjong, etc.)
Ceramics, painting, etc. rooms and instruction
Scrapbooking space
Plenty of storage
Do we want to decrease the age requirement to 50?
A place for adults to congregate
There’s definitely a need to socialize at any age
Need to think about how we refer to the facility (maybe it shouldn’t be called a Sr. Center)
Warm water, not an outdoor facility, can be used by all ages
Specifically offer warm water appropriate for Sr.s with water based activities can be offered
Additional Feedback from SAC 3/9/10
Senior Center
Handicap access to water
Zero depth entry
Watermere’s pool is nice
Can we work out a joint use agreement with an existing facility instead of building one?
Floral arranging activities in craft rooms
Wood working shop (w/equipment) – Example in Fla. – had to expand it 2-3 times size because of the demand)
