Case No. Attachment D SV12 -016 Page 2 Sign Variance Application Demonstration Please demonstrate that the following conditions are applicable to the requested sign variance: That a literal enforcement of the sign regulation will create an unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty on the applicant. The sign is question is that of our corporate logo which is a nationally registered trademark of the corporation. Both the combination of lettering and image are unique components of the logo to which their scale and size cannot be individually modified. To scale down the entire logo by 25% would reduce the size of all the letters making the smaller lettering located at the bottom, very difficult to read from the street thus making the sign illegible. That the situation causing the unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty is unique to the affected property and is not self imposed. The space where the sign is located is where the buildings architect had designed a sign to be placed. Based on sign industry standards the sign should be approximately 44" tall and 84" in width. That the variance will not injure and will be wholly compatible with the use and permitted development of adjacent properties. The size of the sign is only 60% of the size that it could be per the sign ordinance The sign will not be oversized for the area it will be located. Other companies in the area have similar sized or larger signs to which ours would not be out of place. 4. That the variance will be in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance. The overall size of the sign is well within the sign ordinances provisions. The sign is that of the organizations registered trademarked logo which is comprised of three individual components including: a boxed image of a person failing, a large grey box at the top containing the letters"NFSI" and a small banner along the bottom containing the organizations name. To change any one component would change the entire logo and therefore not be a fair representation of the organizations public image. To reduce the overall size of the sign would make it difficult to read from the street which is the purpose of the sign. Case No. Attachment E SV12 -016 Page 1
