Item 4B Lease Agreement for Grazing on City Park Property Item 4B Requested Action City Council renewal of a lease agreement with Tommy Keeton for grazing on approximately 4.5 acres of undeveloped City park property City-owned Undeveloped Property Approximately 4.5 acres of a mixture of pasture/low level vegetation land along eastern boundary of City (Lonesome Dove and Foxfire) Benefits of Lease Agreement Cost effective method of maintaining City property No staff time required for maintenance No impact on City equipment or supplies Estimated cost saving of $2,000 annually Terms of Lease Lease term July 31, 2012 – July 31, 2014 Previous grazing leases: 2010-12 Tommy Keeton 2008-10 William and Peggy Ihnfeldt 2006-08 Gary and Laurette Yates Two-year lease with opportunity to terminate with sixty days written notice Tenants accept property in existing condition Financial Consideration The City saves the cost of mowing and maintaining approximately four acres of undeveloped land during the course of the 2yr lease. The savings is realized in: Staff time – 2 staff x 1.5 hrs per mowing session x 24 mowings Staff commute time to mowing site Reduced impact on equipment and supplies Estimated cost savings is approximately $2,000 annually Citizen / Board Input Lease agreement reviewed by City Attorney Parks Board recommended approval (5-1) July 9, 2012 meeting City Council consideration August 21, 2012 Questions?
