Item 4ICITY OF SOUTHLAK.E MEMORANDUM July 10, 2012 TO: Shana Yelverton, City Manager FROM: Chris Tribble, Director of Community Services Item 41 - 1 SUBJECT: Approve and ratify emergency expense for Dean Construction to demolish and reconstruct the fishing pier at Bob Jones Park in the amount of $153,830 Action Requested: City Council approval and ratification of emergency services by Dean Construction in the amount of $153,830 to demolish and rebuild deteriorated fishing pier at Bob Jones Park. Background Information: The purpose of this request is for City Council to take action to ratify an emergency expense for Dean Construction in the amount of $153,830 to make necessary, emergency repairs to the City's fishing pier in Bob Jones Park. This type of emergency expense is allowed by the Texas Government Code and the City's Purchasing Policy, provided the expense is necessary to preserve or protect the safety or public health of local residents. As such, the emergency expense is exempted from regular competitive bidding processes and the City Council must ratify the emergency purchase within 30 days. A copy of the quote itemizing the services and staff's authorization memo are included in the packet memo. Ratification of the emergency expense for Dean Construction to replace and rebuild the fishing pier will result in compliance with the State's Government Code and City of Southlake Purchasing Policy. Financial Considerations: Funding in the amount of $153,830 for the emergency expense is provided in the FY 2012 SPDC operating budget.
