Item 3B1SOUTHLAKE X l ug City of Southlake Senior Advisory Commission Quarterly Report The Southlake Senior Center is gaining a reputation as an active, challenging, and fun place to come! We've been intentional in building a holistic program of events to meet the varied interests, needs and abilities of the senior adults in Southlake and the surrounding areas. Nancy Brown - New Senior Center Coordinator In early March, Nancy Brown moved into the position of Senior Services Coordinator, housed at the Senior Center. Nancy brings to the position 22 years of experience in the field of gerontology. She has a special interest in sharing the good news about the aging brain and its ability to continue to learn and grow into the later years. Using as a springboard a poll of members' interests and her encouraging presentation of "Old Dog... New Tricks," Nancy has introduced some new and challenging events. She recognizes and is building upon the rich and broad experience, talent, and skills of the seniors themselves. And she continues to foster development of relationships with and among the seniors. In the past quarter, the bus has been seen as far away as Salado, Dublin, and Mineral Wells, Texas. We've also forayed into the Metroplex for art exhibits, lunches, antiques shopping, a play, a big- screen theatre presentation, and even a cattle drive! Celebrating the Generations We've also enjoyed some intergenerational events. It was a joy to watch the Young Men's Service League and young women from the National Charity League became enamored with the Big Band music and dancing at our Starlight Ball, and Walnut Grove Elementary choir students delighted us with an end -of- school -year performance. Celebrating Volunteers This quarter, we've celebrated our many senior adult volunteers with an hors d'oeuvres and dessert buffet. Thirty -six new members have joined our ranks since mid - March, and we look with excitement toward a future in which we continue to grow together in depth and breadth. We're happily realizing that our best memories are still ahead of us. Senior Advisory Commission Members: Jean Boland, Place 1; Patricia Burnett, Place 2; Charles F.
