Guidelines for Establishing New Sister City Relationships

Purpose
To establish guidelines for engaging in future sister city relationships
Background
Southlake Sister Cities established in 1991
Promotes global understanding, friendship and communication through education and exchange opportunities
Acts as the official liaison between Southlake and its sister cities
Background
Current foreign partnerships include:
Sister Cities Friendship Cities
Tome City, Japan Suzhou, China
El Fuerte, Mexico
Proposed Guidelines
Southlake Sister Cities (SSC) identifies potential regions or countries
SSC submits a proposal for each region/country to CS Department for City Council consideration
Proposals will include:
Narrative describing benefit of relationship
Plan for developing sister city relationship
Potential sources of funding
Proposed Guidelines
Upon City Council approval, SSC will identify potential sister cities in each region/country
SSC will recommend 1-2 potential sister city candidates to City Council
Upon City Council approval, SSC delegates will visit each city
One city will be selected and official sister city agreement presented to City Council for approval
