Call to Order — The meeting was called to order by Chairman 26 Baltimore at 1:24 p.m. 27 28 Agenda Item No. 1. Discussion 29 30 A. Guest Presentation — Texas Health Partners Resources (Harris HEB) 31 president Traci Bernard and marketing director Laura Fuqua presented 32 background and historical information about the Southlake hospital, as 33 well as general surgical services available. Ms. Bernard responded to 34 questions regarding health plans, including Medicare. 35 36 B. Hiring process for senior services coordinator position — This item was 37 requested at the March SAC meeting; however, there was no discussion 38 at this meeting. 39 40 The reports section of the meeting will be handled different than previously presented. 41 In an effort to manage time more efficiently, the reporting entities (ie. CARS and 42 MMOW) may provide their routine written reports for distribution at the meeting and do 43 not need to attend the meeting unless there is something that needs to be discussed. Reports 8 9 A. Metroport Meals on Wheels Report — The MMOW reports were 10 distributed. 11 12 B. Call A Ride Southlake Report — Neal Perkin distributed the March CARS 13 report pointing out that ridership is down. CARS hosted their 3 Annual 14 Volunteer Driver's Appreciation dinner, which was well attended. Concern 15 was expressed that rising gas prices may have a negative effect on 16 volunteer drivers. The issue may be considered when the community 17 services agreement with CARS is renewed for 2013 if deemed necessary 18 by CARS, based on their operating plan and demonstrated need. 19 20 C. Southlake Steering Committee (SSC) — Bernie McCauley provided a brief 21 report. The Mother's Day lunch will feature brunch -type food, the Father's 22 Day lunch will feature barbeque and Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated at 23 the May 1 luncheon. The Treasurer reported $3,000 in their checking 24 account. SSC will elect officers. There was also discussion about the 25 Center being open on Fridays, depending upon demand and the budget. 26 The ROMEO's went to McAllister in March. 27 28 D. Southlake Senior Funding, Inc. — Dick McCauley reported on the progress 29 and discussion of the multipurpose community facility held Southlake 2030 30 Parks, Recreation & Open Space /Community Facilities Master Plan 31 meeting on April 9, 2012. 32 33 The Commission talked about adding an item to the May SAC meeting 34 agenda to formally let the City Council know the Senior Advisory 35 Commission supports being part of the multi - purpose facility. 36 37 E. City Manager's Office & Community Services — Communications & 38 Website Manager Pilar Schank provided a report. 39 40 Voting information regarding May 12 Election was provided. SPIN will host 41 a Candidate's Forum Monday, April 16, in Town Hall Council Chambers. 42 Art In the Square is April 27 -29 at Town Square. Bicentennial Park 43 received a merit award from the Texas Chapter of the American Society of 44 Landscape Architects for its design and construction. Property Fraud Alert 45 flyers are included in the 2012 property value statements concerning a 46 program to alert property owners anytime a document with their name on City of Southlake Values: Integrity ♦ Innovation ♦ Accountability ♦ Commitment to Excellence ♦ Teamwork Senior Advisory Commission Minutes of the April 10, 2012 Page 3 of 4 1 it is recorded in the Tarrant County Clerk's Office. For more information, 2 visit MySouthlakeNews.com website. Median construction along FM 1709 3 is complete; deceleration lane construction is being done at several 4 locations. Updates on construction projects and opening of new 5 restaurants and businesses in Southlake may be found at 6 MySouthlakeNews.com. Concern about U -turns at medians were 7 expressed. Commission members were advised to email Gaylon Music, 8 DPS sergeant- traffic division, at gmusic @ci.southlake.tx.us with any 9 concerns or traffic questions. 10 11 F. Senior Advisory Commission Report to Council — Written Senior Advisory 12 Commission reports to City Council will be included in the council packets 13 for the first meetings in January, April, August and October annually. The 14 next written SAC report to City Council will be August 7, 2012. SAC will 15 have an opportunity to preview the report at their July 10 meeting. 16 17 The Commission requested an item on the next SAC meeting agenda to 18 discuss canceling of the July SAC meeting and to determine other 19 meeting dates that may be canceled or rescheduled. 20 21 G. Guest Schedule — Council member Martin Schelling will be the guest 22 speaker at the May SAC meeting and Public Works Director Bob Price is 23 scheduled in June; however, Deputy Director Happold will contact Mr. 24 Price to see if his guest appearance may be moved to allow a 25 representative from Kenny Marchant's office at the June SAC meeting to 26 talk about Medicare issues. 27 28 Agenda Item No. 3A.
