Item 4E AudioMayor and members of City Council, Item 4E on your agenda is to Approve the Purchase of 21 mobile radios from Motorola Solutions in the amount of $64,176. 1 This item is linked to the City’s Strategy Map related to the focus area of Safety and Security and meets the corporate objectives to Achieve the Highest Standards of Safety and Securityand to Optimize the Use of Technology. 2 There is Federal mandate known as Project 25, or P-25, which requires all governmental entities to utilize radios on a digital spectrum. This will require Police Services to replace 21 radios currently being utilized in our patrol fleet. Thereare three radios currently being utilized that can be upgraded to work in the digital spectrum without replacement. Full compliance is required prior to January 1, 2016. NETCO, our radio system consortium, is planning to have full compliance prior to January 1, 2014. The purchase of these radios and required upgrades will ensure that all radios in DPS Police Services are compliant with P-25 requirements. 3 The costof purchasing the 21 Motorola APX6500 Mobile Radios amounts to $59,346.87. Re-banding upgrades to the three compatible radios will cost $4,830. Funding for this comes from the FY 2012 Crime Control and Prevention District budget, which included $106,007 for the replacement and required modifications of mobile radios that are no longer supported by Motorola beginning January 1, 2016. 4 Staff recommends the approval of the purchaseof 21 mobile radios from Motorola Solutions in the amount of $64,176. 5 If you have any questions, please contact DeputyPolice Chief Rusty Daniels at 817-748-8133. 6
