Blagg, Assistant City Manager/Director of Public Safety Subject: Approve permit for CISD Photography Exhibit in Department of Public Safety Headquarters May 1-31, 2012 Action Requested: City Council approval of a permit to allow a CISD photography exhibit in Department of Public Safety Headquarters (DPS HQ) facility main lobby area May 1- 31, 2012. Background Information: The permit requires a recommendation from the Southlake Arts Council and approval by the City Council. The exhibit will feature about 60 assorted photos taken by CISD students. Theexhibit will consist of two, 3-panel, freestanding floor units.Nothing will be attached to the walls of the DPS Headquarters. Sponsors of the CISD exhibit include Southlake Public Library, Southlake Arts Council and CISD photography department. The exhibit will be managed and maintained by City of Southlake Library staff. Deputy Director McGeath,liaison for the exhibition, will coordinate set up and tear down of the photos.The exhibition is not a fundraising event, but is an opportunity for Southlake youth to showcase their photography skills and talent. The Permit meets the provisions of the Display of Public Arts Policy. Approval of the permit will have no financial impact on City budgets. A copy of the Permit is attached for your information. If approved, this will be the first temporary exhibit approved for the DPS HQ facility. CISD is not paid for display or associated costs related to delivery and pick up of photos. Strategic Link: This Permit is linked to the City Council Focus Areas of Quality Development and Partnerships and Volunteerism. The Permit also addresses the corporate objectives of providing attractive and unique spaces for enjoyment of personal interests and providing opportunities for partnerships and volunteer involvement. Citizen Input/ Board Review: Southlake Arts Council recommended approval at the April 24, 2012 meeting. City Council will consider Permit May 1, 2012.
