Item 4F AudioHonorableMayor and City Council –Item 4F, Resolution No. 12-006A, amends the
Election Order approved by Council on January 17, 2012.
1
The approval of Resolution No. 12-006Ais necessary to comply with State Law to
include the early voting locations and modification to the Tarrant County Election
Day polling location.
Pursuant to state law, an election order shall include:
•Date of the election;
•Office(s) or measure to be voted on;
•Location of each polling place;
•Location of each early voting polling location;
•Date that early voting by personal appearance will begin;
and if a City is conducting a joint election, the following shall be included in the
election order:
•Dates and hours for early voting;
•Date and hours for voting on Saturday and Sunday;
•Early voting clerk’s official mailing address
2
According to state law, the date to call/order an election falls before the last day a
candidate can file an application to run for public office. This is commonly referred to
as the “last day to file”. Until the “last day to file”, municipalities are not aware if they
will be conducting an election and subsequently, county election administrators can
not finalize the early voting polling locations. It is after the deadline of the “last day to
file” that the early voting polling locations become finalized.
2
In additionto including the early voting polling locations, Resolution No. 12-006A
incorporates the joint election contracts with Denton and Tarrant counties.
3
Lastly,the resolution amends the Tarrant County Election Day polling location.
In the past, the Tarrant County Election Day site has been located at:
Carroll High School
800 North White Chapel
This year, the City was notified of an event –Relay for Life –that will be taking
place at Carroll High School the evening prior and morning of Election Day.
In order to ensure voters would have access to location and parking, the location
was changed to Carroll Senior High School, located at 1501 West Southlake
Boulevard. The new location is located at the intersection of FM 1709/Southlake
Boulevard and Peytonville. Access to the site will be off Peytonvilleand FM 1709.
A site map will be provided on the City’s website to assist voters with the new
location—access and parking.
4
Earlyvoting hours and locations are available to the public on the City website. A
copy of early voting locations will also be provided at the City Library. As required
by state law, notice of the election will be posted on the City’s official bulletin board
and published in the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
