Ordinance No. 1025 (one thousand twenty five), 2 nd Reading, Establish Speed limit on FM 1709 1 The requested action for this item is to approve Ordinance No. 1025 (one thousand twenty five) which establishes the speed limit on Southlake Boulevard. The 1 st reading was approved on February 21, 2012. This request has been placed by the Texas Department of Transportation. 2 Southlake Blvd. or FM 1709 is under the jurisdiction of the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOThas requested that the City Council approve an ordinance to establish the speed limit on Southlake Blvd. from the west city limits to the ease city limits. The speed limit along the corridor will remain unchanged at 45 MPH. Speed zones under 60 MPH are set by city ordinance. TxDOThas proposed that the speed limit between Carroll Avenue and Village Center Drive be reduced to 40 MPH. The narrowing the driving lanes to accommodate and enhanced landscaping area resulted in a reduction to the speed limit from 45 MPH to 40 MPH. Due to ongoing construction of the deceleration lanes at several locations and other upcoming projects which will affect travel within the corridor, City Council has respectfully requested that TxDOTperform another speed study later in the year to determine if a speed reduction between Carroll Avenue and Village Center is warranted. 3 The recommendation for this item is to approve Ordinance No. 1025 (one thousand twenty five), 2 nd Reading, establishing the Speed Limit on Southlake Boulevard. 4 Approval of Ordinance No. 1025 (one thousand twenty five), 1 st Reading, establishing the Speed Limit on Southlake Boulevard fulfills the City’s mission of Serving our customers byachieving the highest standards of safety and security. 5 If you have anyquestions regarding this item, contact Robert H.
