EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Details of Sidewalk Presentation:
City staff presented and requested feedback on the priority list for FY12 citywide sidewalk
construction projects. These projects will utilize general funds budgeted for sidewalk
construction. This year, staff is proposing four possible locations for sidewalk construction
with an approved budget of $400,000.
Recommendation number 1 is located on the west side of north White Chapel Blvd from
north of Walnut Grove Elementary to Wingate Lane. This segment is identified as a portion
of trail # 11N. It measures approximately 2500 linear feet and will be 8 feet wide. The
estimated cost for this segment is $180,000. Some existing topography issues include trees
and a steep grade at Wingate.
Recommendation number 2 is located on the west side of north Peytonville Avenue from
Southlake Blvd. to Ten Bar Trail. This segment is identified as SP # 43 and a portion of #
152. It measures approximately 2500 linear feet and will be 4 feet wide. The estimated cost
for this segment is $100,000. Some existing topography issues include trees and
landscaping.
Recommendation number 3 is located on the west side of N. White Chapel Blvd. from the
Cliffs Park existing sidewalk, north to King Ranch Rd. This segment is not identified on the
Sidewalk Plan, however, will serve as a school connector and is a recommendation that
came from the North Sector plan, a component of the Southlake 2030 Plan. It measures
approximately 1500 linear feet and will be 8 feet wide. The estimated cost for this segment
is $120,000. Some existing topography issues include existing landscape, trees and
drainage ditch.
Recommendation number 4 is located on the east side of N. Carroll Ave. from Del Mar Dr.
north to the roundabout at E. Dove St. This segment is identified as the remaining portion of
Trail #18N. It measures approximately 1500 linear feet and will be 8 feet wide. The
estimated cost for this segment is $100,000.
The total estimated cost of the FY2012 priority list is greater than the $400,000 in funds
budgeted by the City C
consideration in excess of the budgeted funds in the event that cost savings are found
during the construction process. Staff proposes to fully utilize the funds budgeted to
implement sidewalk improvements within the upcoming fiscal year.
QUESTIONS / COMMENTS (Sidewalks)
Will all the trees need to be removed?
No, the construction manager does a pretty good job of preserving as many
R
trees as possible.
How much more excess funds will be needed?
The fourth segment is estimated at an additional $100,000
R
We have to meet the requirements of the Master Plan, and some walks are

Discussion: About the concerns of adequate ROW with Rec. #4; discussion of
drainage concerns with Rec. #4, and discussion of current sidewalks around Rec.
#4.
Why put in multi-use paths where sidewalks exist as opposed to installing sidewalks

bikers, walkers, children, etc.
Is there an avenue to make alternative suggestions to the recommendation list?
Yes, these meetings, contacting your SPIN Rep., showing up to public
R
meetings
Discussion: The need for sidewalks along Carroll Ave. by the fire facility, especially
during town square events; people use the streets for sidewalks, and lack of
connectivity in that area.
Discussion: The need for sidewalks along White Chapel b/t Highland and SH 114,
Bob explained how this would be achieved with new development and with the White
Chapel Improvement Project.
Is there a plan past 2012?
Yes, we have annual priority list recommendations for the City Council to
R
consider. These lists work in concert with the Sidewalk Master Plan
(Southlake Comprehensive Plans 2025 & 2030).
How can we subscribe to get updates on plans?
On the Southlake website, you can sign up and receive emails when there
R
will be meetings, etc. for certain projects and cases.
Also, getting citizen input largely weighs on the recommendations for projects
R
that the City decides to recommend.
Who decides where biking is or is not allowed on certain trails (Bob Jones Park)?
It is Core property, and the Parks Plan may or may not dictate where certain
R
activities are allowed.
Details of Wayfinding Signage Presentation:
Staff presented some background regarding the Wayfinding Signage Installation Program
which was adopted by City Council last April. The plan provides for locations and messages
for 60-plus signs throughout the city as well as a priority list for sign funding and installation.
Staff is currently in the process of awarding a contract to a sign fabricator, who is likely to
value-engineer the signs to decrease cost. A list of 15 signs/locations was presented. All but

the next two or so years:

QUESTIONS / COMMENTS (Wayfinding)
Will the signs have the same wording as the ones you have shown in your
presentation?
Yes, they will have the actual wording shown
R
One of your examples stated DPS Training Facility that facility doesnt currently
exist.
Right, it is possible the facility will get built in the future. Also, these signs are
R
designed to be interchangeable. The expectation is that future development
and or changes will not require an entire new sign.
