CITY OF SOUTHLAKE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION January 9, 2001- Senior Activity Center MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES PRESENT: Chairperson, Jeane Alexander, David Baltimore, Darla Lattimore, Connie Montague, Jerry Montague, Tom Furey, Linda Moore MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES ABSENT: Bill Cosgrove EX OFFICIO MEMBERS AND GUESTS PRESENT: Joanne Leek STAFF PRESENT: Nona Whitehead, Community Services Coordinator Agenda Item No. 1, Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Jeane Alexander at 1:15 p.m. Agenda Item No. 2 Approval of 10/10/2000 Minutes Connie Montague moved that the minutes be accepted. The motion was seconded by David Baltimore and approved unanimously. Agenda Item No. 3, Administrative Comments Nona Whitehead introduced Joanne Leek who will begin employment January 16`h as the new Director of the Senior Activity Center. Nona explained that she will work part time through January to help train and orient Joanne. Commission members introduced themselves and welcomed Joanne. Nona distributed copies of a letter sent to NETS indicating that the City of Southlake would terminate their contract with NETS as of December 31, 2000. At this time Southlake Senior transportation options are limited to CARS. A copy of the fiscal year attendance figures was also distributed to the Commission showing increased participation in activities throughout the week. Agenda Item No. 4, Report: Southlake Senior Activities Tom Furey reported on the activity highlights for the month of December. Tom highlighted the Hanging of the Greens and the Christmas sing a long party. He reported that the trip to the Nutcracker with the Irving Ballet was well received. Agenda Item No. 5, Report: Metroport Meals on Wheels Sonja Allen was unable to stay for the meeting. Nona Whitehead passed out MMOW'S statistics for the month and for the quarter. N:\Community Services\Seniors\Minutes\01-1-09.doc Agenda Item No. 6, Open Forum David Baltimore mentioned that the City of Southlake is putting together a directory of City phone numbers that he will receive for SPIN and that he will make available to members of the Commission. Nona asked if there were items to be considered for future agendas. Connie Montague would like to have more information on health care issues in Texas. She suggested that perhaps Vicki Truitt could be invited to speak to the Commission on the status of health care issues.
