CITY OF SOUTHLAKE SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION July 9, 2002 - Senior Activity Center MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES PRESENT: Marge Kyle, Bill Kyle, Tom Furey, Diana Collins, Cleta Pierce, David Baltimore and Bill Cosgrove. MEMBERS AND ALTERNATES ABSENT: Jeane Alexander Linda Moore, Jerry and Connie Montague. EX OFFICIO MEMBERS AND GUESTS PRESENT: Linda Braun, MMOW Mary King, Executive Director MMOW STAFF PRESENT: Joanne Leek, Community Services Coordinator Agenda Item No. 1, Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by Vice Chairman David Baltimore. Agenda Item No. 2 Approval of the 06/11/02 Minutes: Marge moved and Cleta seconded the motion to approve the minutes. They were approved unanimously. Agenda Item No. 3 Administrative Comments: Joanne reported that the Senior Steering Committee has appointed a Committee to research the possibility of obtaining a vanibus vehicle for the Senior Activity Center. There is an option of getting a matching dollar for dollar grant from Southlake Parks Development Corporation (SPDC). Further development of fund raising ideas and a formal presentation will be made to the Southlake Seniors in the near future. A trip to College Station and Austin, 2 days, 1 night, is being planned for later in the fall. The Alaska trip will be August 18th-27th. Also a trip is now offered for Christmas in Branson. The budget process is now going and hopefully the budget for the Senior Activity Center will be approved as presented. Agenda Item No. 4 Southlake Senior Activities: Tom reported that the Senior-housing complex had been approved through City Council. Completion of phase I should be in the fall of 2004. He also reported on the many activities provided for seniors at the center. Among the highlights were the patriotic sing-alongs, book review, and music lovers. Agenda Item No. 5 Metroport Meals on Wheels (MMOW The attendance at the Tuesday luncheons has been very good for the summer months. The quality and quantity of food has been excellent. Linda reported that she would be leaving in August to attend a semester of classes to refresh her nursing skills and become licensed in Texas. She hopes to return to the Tuesday MMOW program in January. Mary reported that MMOW has not found a replacement for the program. Mary also reminded everyone that on July 27`h the Ranger's Wives Club will have a "Donation Station" located at the Ball Park in Arlington. This is a good opportunity to take large items that MMOW could refurbish and sell at their resale shop, Sadies in Roanoke. Agenda Item No. 6 Discussion CARS-Bylaws, Volunteer Training, Service Area, Office Hours: Steve Lakin was not available for the meeting. He and/or a representative of CARS will be invited to the August meeting Agenda Item No. 7 Oven Forum: Bill Kyle reported on the Cell Phone 911 Project. We have plenty of phones on hand at the present time. Also, Brink's Home Security has donated more of the 911 Mobile units for distribution.
