37 Agenda Item No. 4 - Administrative Comments: Ken Baker, Director of Planning & Development
38 Services, noted that that Planning & Development Services Department is comprised of many divisions
39 and recently two of these divisions received awards in recognition of their work. The Building
40 Inspections division has been awarded the "Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) 2008
41 Award for Excellence" which recognizes qualifying cities for their professionalism and outstanding
42 contributions to the building profession and community it serves. Southlake has been recognized for
43 the department's high degree of certifications and licenses, continuing education, plan review and
44 inspection response time, and staff participation in National, State and local organizations. The Award
45 of Excellence recognizes Southlake as the most qualified Building Department for its' sized jurisdiction
46 in the State of Texas. This award was presented at the BOAT Midyear meeting on February 26, 2009
47 in San Marcos, Texas. Paul Ward, Chief Building Official, was recognized by Director Baker. Director
48 Baker noted that the Planning Department has received the "Tree City USA" designation and "Growth
49 Award" from the Arbor Day Foundation noting this is the 8th consecutive year for this designation. The
-0 Commission complimented staff on receipt of these awards.
