Peter Kao stated that additional plantings may help 284 in the buffer area but that the variance requested if for lighting not the buffer area. 285 286 Claudia Pillow, 575 Love Henry Ct., Southlake, TX, Inquired as to why the buffer on Shady Oaks 287 cannot be decreased to accommodate for a larger buffer to the north. Peter Kao stated the design on 288 Shady Oaks is based on engineering issues from grading and right-of-way requirements. 289 Commissioner Wang asked if we needed more baseball fields and if we could place a recreation 290 center on this site instead. Peter Kao responded that the fields are needed and that the baseball 291 league does very well in Southlake, adding that the City has already purchased land for a recreation 292 center. Commissioner Wang inquired about the timeline for this project and if it can be delayed to 293 accommodate for residents concerns. Peter Kao stated that the response from citizens has been 294 positive. Commissioner Wang inquired about the parcel 309 located directly to the north of the park; staff stated that there has been no response from this 310 resident. Chairman Morin inquired if staff could address the residents concerns prior to presenting to 311 City Council. Vice-Chairman Bledsoe commented that he would like to see what due diligence has 312 been done on this project, adding that the master plan calls for something that the city may or may 313 not need eight years from now and what is needed now should be considered. Commissioner Faglie 314 inquired about the difference in the proposed lighting verses the existing lighting; Deputy Director 315 Dennis Killough clarified that the height numbers provided are approximations and are rounded up 316 to accommodate for differences that occur during instillation. Chairman Morin inquired about the 317 months of operation on the ball fields, Peter Kao responded stating the fields will be used 318 approximately from March to November. Commissioner Hudson stated that the plan presented was 319 a good plan and that the ball fields would impact the residents to the north less than an 320 amphitheater or stadium would. Chairman Morin stated that time and money has been spent on the 321 development of this project and it is should not be re-designed at this point.
