In line with the proposed Southlake Public Art Master Plan which will be considered for approval
tonight as Ordinance 1016 in Agenda 6E, the developer of Carillon has proposed a sculpture piece
for Carillon Enclave Park public area. Opportunities for developers to commission public art for a
development is provided in the proposed Public Art Master Plan. The art work is at the developer’s
expense, for a development in a public space or publicly accessible outdoor space for art work that
meets the City’s principles and guidelines found in the Southlake 2030 Plan and the Public Art Master
Plan.
Staff has reviewed Hines’ proposal and presented it for consideration to Southlake Arts Council. On
November 22, 2011 the Arts Council voted 3-2 to recommend approval of the art sculpture.

Donatello was a Florentine sculptor during the Renaissance period, 1400-1600’s.
This masterpiece is considered suitable to most youth and adult tastes and does not
present nudity, excessive violence and is not offensive.

How tall is it? Compared to the Christmas Tree that currently occupies the center of
the Town Hall Lobby, the sculpture is about two-thirds as tall –about 12 ½-feet tall.
The Christmas tree is approximately 18 feet tall.

The proposed location for the sculpture is in Phase IA, the Enclave Park, in the NW
corner of park, at terrace overlooking lake (corner of St. Tropez and Monte Carlo).
The approximate cost is $50,000, which will be paid by the Hines Group.
