EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Details
Recommendations for artworks that should be commissioned -- both specific
opportunities we see now, and types of projects that should be considered in the long
run.
Research and recommendations for how Southlake should approach the question of
creating a performing arts center.
What has been happening in Southlake that makes made it important to undertake this
plan?
1) quire that a plan be undertaken;
2) As the city has begun to commission its first public art works, it has become clear
that the city should develop a long-term strategy, and to put in place the policy
and procedures necessary to do things correctly;
3) The question of whether and how the city should support the creation of a
performing arts center is still a very important public issue;
4) And, the city is currently revising its comprehensive plan, which provides a good
opportunity to look at how public art relates to the city.
Key Objectives of the plan:
Setting a long-term direction for city art commissions
Î
Identifying, early on, opportunities in capital projects
Î
Developing concept / next steps for McPherson Park
Î
Establishing a timeline for City commissions
Î
Encouraging art in private development
Î

Î
Outline City Council, Arts Council responsibilities
Î
Provide context for performing arts center
Î
