REQUESTED ACTION Approve contract with Weatherproofing Technologies for waterproofing the exterior of Town Hall in the amount of $142,786.56 Approve contract with Weatherproofing Technologies for waterproofing the exterior of Town Hall in the amount of $142,786.56 VA Town Hall Weatherproofing Background: —Town Hall constructed in 1999 • Refurbished hand rails last fall • Reset damaged steps late winter —Weatherproofing South Elevation • Reseal all windows • Restore cracked grout and mortar • Seal masonry surfaces • Re -grout north & south granite steps Since the construction of the Town Hall building in 1999, very little maintenance has been done to the exterior of the building. During the current fiscal year all the hand rails around the building were refurbished and painted. The granite stairs on the north side of the building were also repaired following damage caused by water penetration. This project will address the entire south surface of the building. All the original water sealants will be removed and replaced, as well as any cracked mortar. In addition, all the mortar on the granite steps for both the north and south entrances will be removed and replaced with an elastic material to allow for expansion and prevent water penetration. 3 T own • • • • SL :v r� The slide shows the south elevation of the Town Hall building to be addressed by this project. All the architectural detail on this side of the building contributes to the complexity and expense of this project. M Town Hall Weatherproofing Other Considerations: — Scaffolding required —Completion expected by Oct. 31, 2011 Financial Consideration: — Funding for this project is available • Strategic Initiative Fund - $100,000.00 • Facility Services FY -11 Budget - $42,786.56 In order to complete this work, scaffolding will have to be set up on the south side of the building in order to reach many of the problem areas which need to be addressed. We estimate that this project should be completed no later than the end of October, 2011. $100,000 in funding for this project is provided in the Strategic Initiative Fund and the balance will come from this year's operating budget for facility maintenance division. 5 The approval of this project links to the city's strategy map relative to the focus areas of Infrastructure.
