33 Agenda Item No. 5A. Consider: Recommendation on Bob Jones Nature Center
• 34 Organization Permit for Visual Arts Display in Town Hall Lobby Julv 1 -29, 2011 -- The
35 permit request is for a display of the photos submitted for the 7 Annual Bob Jones
36 Nature Center and Preserve Photography Contest to be exhibited in Southlake Town
37 Hall lobby July 1 -29, 2011. Photos are 8 1 /2 - 11 inch on white matte, will cover less than
38 30% of the floor space and complies with the Display of Public Arts Policy. City Council
39 will consider the permit request June 7, 2011.

41 A motion was made and unanimously approved (5 -0) to recommend approval of the
42 Bob Jones Nature Center Organization permit to display the photography contest
43 photos in Town Hall lobby July 1 -29, 2011.

4 Agenda Item No. 2A - Administrative Comments — Update from APEX Arts League

6 Deputy Director McGeath presented the update. Three representatives from APEX
7 participated in the workshop for the development of the Arts Council Master Plan. Visit

10 Agenda Item No. 2B. — Administrative Comments — Update from Arts Council Northeast
11
12 Deputy Director Kerry McGeath reported Arts Council Northeast is working on holding
13 MasterWorks Music Series concerts in April and May instead of a cluster during
14 July /August. Arts Council Northeast is also working to further their artist grants program.
15 The Southlake Arts Council may wish to discuss the possibility of City participation in
16 the grant program in the future.

18 Agenda Item No. 2C — Administrative Comments — Update from Arts Master Plan
19 Steering Committee, including status of Roundtable
20
21 A stakeholders meeting for the Arts Master Plan was held May 19, 2011 that Arts
22 Council members Leslie Walker, Merlene Ingraham and Terri Messing attended. The
23 next phase of developing the master plan is for the consultants (Via Partnership) to
24 define the community needs and present a proposed plan with funding options for
25 consideration.

27 CONSENT AGENDA: Consent agenda items are considered to be routine by the Board
28 and are enacted with one motion.

3 Agenda Item No. 6A. Discussion: Sculpture Garden in McPherson Park
4 The Southlake Arts Council discussed the progress for a sculpture garden in the City's
5 McPherson Park, adjacent to the Hilton Hotel in Town Square. Deputy Director
6 McGeath recently visited Frisco's sculpture garden to determine how sculpture pieces
7 could be displayed. Frisco uses concrete bases covered with decomposed granite for
8 the sculpture platforms. Sculpture pieces are provided by artists on a loan basis;
9 however, the City must pay for transportation and installation costs. The next step in
10 developing the sculpture garden in McPherson Park is allocation of funding and funds
11 are proposed in the FY 2011 -12 budget to cover the costs of four or five sculpture
12 bases. Design of the platform bases may begin in October following approval of the
13 budget.

15 Agenda Item No. 6B. Discussion: Roundabout Art Work Progress

17 The Southlake Arts Council briefly discussed the next step in the roundabout art work
18 project. City staff is required to inspect each of the artists' clay work prior to being cast.
19 Director McGeath and Assistant City Manager Blagg will inspect the artists' clay models
20 in Cedar Hill and in Arlington, Texas. Director McGeath will inspect the clay work of the
21 artist in Loveland, CO. Pictures will be provided to the Arts Council at the next meeting.

23 Non - agenda Item: Southlake Arts Council Meeting June 28

25 Southlake Arts Council discussed holding the meeting in June even though traditionally
26 have skipped a June meeting. Staff will advise the council members once a decision is
27 made.
