Item 5FCity of Southlake, Texas MEMORANDUM February 1, 2002 To: Billy Campbell, City Manger From: Pedram Farahnak, P.E., Director of Public Works, 481 -2308 Subject: Approval of Professional Services Agreement with Freese- Nichols for design of a redundant (Second Water Supply) water supply from the City of Fort Worth to Southlake. Action Requested: Award a Professional Services Agreement to Freese - Nichols for design of a redundant water supply from Fort Worth to Southlake pump station No. 1. Background Information: The 2001 -2002 Capital Improvement Program provides funding for professional services for design of a 42" and 30" transmission line to transport treated water from the City of Fort Worth Caylor Tank to the City of Southlake pump station No. 1. Southlake currently receives its treated water through a water purchase contract with the City of Fort Worth. The treated water is delivered to the City of Fort Worth Beach Street pump station No. 1. Southlake currently receives its treated water through a water purchase contract with the City of Fort Worth. The treated water is delivered to the City of Fort Worth Beach Street pump station approximately 3 miles west of the City of Southlake. This treated water is transported to the City of Southlake and Keller via a single 36" transmission line constructed in 1984. Due to Southlake's high growth, this transmission line is approaching its top capacity. The redundant water supply line will expand the current water delivery capability to 30,000 gallons per day. The engineering phase of the project will take 180 calendar days. Financial Consideration: The total cost for design, construction plan preparation, bid proposal and limited construction phase consultation is $425,000. The Finance Department has confirmed funds availability from account No. 742 - 999 -5- 993.52 (30 "/36" water line). Citizen Input/ Board Review: None. Legal Review: The standard Form of Agreement as to the form has been reviewed and approved by the City attorney. Alternatives: The alternatives will be examined during the design phase.
