RESOLUTION NO. 02 -003
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE,
TEXAS, REQUESTING THAT THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION EXPEDITE ITS PLAN FOR THE WIDENING OF STATE
HIGHTWAY 114 FROM INTERSTATE 35W TO HIGHWAY 287; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Southlake finds that the traffic on State Highway 114 is increasing at
a rapid rate; and
WHEREAS, State Highway 114 west of Interstate Highway 35 is a major highway that
remains a two -lane road, and development in the Metroplex continues to cause an increase in use of
this transportation corridor; and
WHEREAS, State Highway 114 carries more than thirty percent (30 %) of the truck traffic
supplying aggregate to the Metroplex and also serves as an access route for area attractions such as the
Texas Motor Speedway; and
WHEREAS, the combination of truck traffic, development, and an increase in the number of
major events at Texas Motor Speedway has the potential of seriously affecting both eastbound and
westbound traffic flow on State Highway 114, including traffic to and from Highway 287 and
Interstate 35; and
WHEREAS, adequate roadway systems are critical to all area counties, municipalities, and
businesses in order to accommodate traffic demand and to provide safe, efficient, and environmentally
sensitive transportation systems;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That the above premises are found to be true and correct and are hereby incorporated into the
text of this Resolution.
SECTION 2.
That the City of Southlake supports the request for an expedited and concerted effort on the
part of the Texas Highway Department of Transportation to complete the plan for the widening of
State Highway 114 from Interstate 35W to Highway 287, purchase the right -of -way for the project,
and proceed to final design and implementation of the plan with all possible urgency.

SECTION 3.
That this resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and approval.

SOUTHLAKE ON THIS DAY OF , 2002.
