The Southlake Library Board respectfully submits this written report in an effort to maintain
communication flow between the Board and City Council.
The Southlake Library Board will hold their November /December Library Board Meeting on
Wednesday December 8.
Librarians Report: Library Administrator Kerry McGeath indicated the following programs
upcoming in December
Food for Fees
From November 1 through January 3 the library will accept non - perishable food items in place
of extended use fees /fines, replacement costs for lost or damaged items, and processing fees.
Each non - perishable food item you donate will allow us to waive one dollar in fees from your
account. The donated food goes to the G.R.A.C.E. food bank to help the hungry in Southlake,
Grapevine and Colleyville. Please join us in this effort to reduce or eliminate fees /fines and help
the community at the same time!
Have a sweet tooth or an artistic bent? Come decorate cookies with us!
Children from ages two through twelve are invited to join us Tuesday, December 7 th from 4:00 to
5:00. We will be frosting and sprinkling with help for the Carroll Middle School ASTRA
volunteers in the third floor meeting rooms of Town Hall. Reservations are recommended to
ensure that there are treats for everyone; you may reach us at or leave a message at 817 -481-

Get into the holiday spirit at our Polar Express Event.
This annual family activity will be held on Monday, December 13 from 7:00 to 7:45 p.m. in the
third floor meeting rooms of Town Hall. Our own Andrew Burt will read the book that inspired
the current hit movie. ASTRA volunteers from Carroll Middle School will be on hand to serve
hot cocoa and join in the festivities. Reservations are recommended to ensure that there are treats

Winter Reading Club is Back!
From December 1 St through December 30 you can win candy and prizes for reading!
Prizes include pencils, bookmarks, comic books and paperback books. Come in to the library
to pick up your reading log and put a snowman on the wall.
Masterworks events with the North East Tarrant County Arts Council (Artsnet) will begin after
the first of the year and will include the Fort Worth Opera's Children's Opera Troupe (singers
are adults with the FW Opera) of Little Red Riding Hood. Details will be coming soon on all the
upcoming Masterworks
Library Databases — the Library has concluded its agreement with the State Library for the
purchase of databases for reference and research. The Library pays $410.000 for the Texshare
databases — if we paid for each separately it would be close to $63,000. We have visited all but 3
CISD schools (and we are working on getting to them) and marketing the databases that are

available on the Library web site. We have greatly increased use of the Library by students as a
result of this marketing campaign, and have increased our visibility in the schools dramatically.
We will continue these efforts to increase our viability by enhancing or usability and visibility.
