STAFF REPORT

CASE NO: SV10 -028
PROJECT: Sign Variance for 7- Eleven at 2100 E. Southlake Blvd.
REQUEST: Barnett Signs, on behalf of 7- Eleven, is requesting a variance to Sign Ordinance
704 as amended to allow the addition of orange, green, and red vinyl stripes to the
7- Eleven fueling canopy located at 2100 East Southlake Boulevard.
The subject site has recently changed from a Chevron station to a 7- Eleven
station. The previously existing Chevron signs on the canopy were permitted to be
replaced with similar 7- Eleven signage in accordance with the approved site plan.
The applicant is now requesting to add the 7- Eleven orange, green, and red
stripes to the canopy. Since these stripes are considered a sign, a variance is
required for approval.
ACTION NEEDED: Consider variance request.

Sign Variance Application
Demonstration
Please demonstrate that the following conditions are applicable to the requested sign variance,
That a literal enforcement of the sign regulation will create an unnecessary hardship or practical
difficulty on the applicant_
We were told that we would only be allowed 1 stripe on the canopy fascia and 7- Eleven's trademark
has 3 stripes. if we go with 1 stripe it will not give us the corporate brand that we are known for.
That the situation causing the unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty is unique to the affected
property and is not self imposed.
We feel this is uniquely imposed on this site as other sites in the city are allowed their image
package on the fuel canopy ie. 7- Eleven at Southlake blvd and Peytonsville, Chevron at
Kimball and Hwy 114, Shell at Kimball and Hwy 114
That the variance will not injure and will be wholly compatible with the use and permitted
development of adjacent properties,
There Is another fuel statism 7- Eleven at Southlake blvd and Peytonsville, Chevron at
Kimball and Hwy 114, Shell at Kimball and Hwy 114
4. That the variance will be in harmony with the spirit and purpose of the sign ordinance.
We feel since our 3 color stripe is not illuminated that it brings a tasteful and subtle product
recognition to our store.
