13 SOUTHLAI<,.E CITY OF Department of Planning & Development Services STAFF REPORT January 12, 2011 CASE NO: SV10 -026 PROJECT: Sign Variance for Red Dog Right REQUEST: B & B Signs, on behalf of Red Dog Right, is requesting a variance to Sign Ordinance 704 as amended to allow an existing nonconforming, obsolete monument sign to be utilized. Red Dog Right is located at 3311 East S.H. 114. The previous occupant of this site, Red Lobster, received approval for a sign variance for the existing monument sign on December 3, 2002. Specifically, Red Lobster was permitted to elevate their monument sign on an approximately 5 foot tall landscaped berm. Due to the length of time the property has been vacant, approval for the monument sign has expired. A new variance is required in order for the sign to be used. ACTION NEEDED Sign Regulation Current Regulation Proposed Regulation Monument Sign Base 2 feet Approximately 5 feet Height (Berm Height) Monument Sign Total 12 feet Approximately 11 feet 6 Height inches (Including Berm) Masonry Requirement 6 inches completely 8 inches on both sides of the surrounding sign face sign face; 5 inches above and below sign face; approximate 6 inch gap between sign structure and berm Consider variance request.
